I was asked a question today and wasn't really sure of the correct answer so I thought I'd ask here. Can a non-FFL holder ship a firearm to another state so long as it is actually being address/shipped to themselves and not have to go through a local FFL holder? The person is hesitant about driving inter-state with the gun. (non-2nd amendment friendly states on route).
While thinking about the answer, I thought of a similar question...could a non-FFL holder buy a gun as a gift (X-mas) and ship it to another state to a non-FFL holder? I have my doubts on this second one but thought I'd ask anyways.

There are a number of problems. Federal laws must be followed but also there are rules of the shippers, UPS etc. And things get worse with time. The mostsure thing is to ship dealer to dealer.

You mean this person doesent want to drive through a democratic goverened state with an unloaded, securely encased firearm that is not readily acessible - in fear of malicious prosecution?

Sorry, but I think there's some common sense left in law enforcement.

I'd figured as such but had to make sure. Thanx for the helpful replies and :barf: on the other(s)

Yes, you can ship a gun to yourself. I've done this several times, when flying with more guns than the airline will allow me to carry in my checked baggage. Simply fill out the waybill's FROM and TO sections with your name, and the destination address and telephone number. It's best that there be a person you know and trust to sign for the package at the other end - it's not a good idea to ship it to the hotel where you'll be staying: the desk clerk might not be the most honest person in the world...

You can return the gun in the same way.

What blades67 and Preacherman said. Also, federal law allows you to transport the guns across states just as long as the possession is legal at your destination.
