Contemplating shipping an eotech sight from the US to the Philippines. Any legal hassles/obstacles, or would it be considered an optics type equipment? Thanks in advance.

Hey thanks for the link. You're right it is dizzying. I didn't see sights listed specifically, unless they are considered as "target acquisition devices".

Footnote from the EOTech website: http://www.eotech-inc.com/products.php?id=1

This Holographic Weapon Sight must be exported from the United States in accordance with Export Administration Regulations ECCN 0A987. Diversion contrary to U.S. law is prohibited.

Also see Category I(f) on the above-linked State Department document (on the second page).

Riflescopes manufactured to military specifications...

It would seem that shipping an EOTech overseas without export authorization could get you in some hot water.

Yes it would.

Exporting anything weapons related can get you in trouble in fact.

There are some countrys you can ship certain things to, and others you can't ship anything too under U.S. law.
Then, what about the laws in the country you ship too?
You have to know them as well.

I would not even risk it on a bet.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to do some more research on this. The receiving party is actually in the Philippine Army and that may be a factor.

I think for Eotech, the official position is that Eotech with a night vision capability need an export licence.. the others may not..

Anyway, it's a law full of crap since hundreds of Eotech are sold every day on Ebay all around the world..

This is the same law that forbids me to buy spare parts for my Ar-15 made in the USA and that i bought perfectly legally in Switzerland..

BS

Think of the policy what you like, but it's the law.

I'm constantly getting people outside the US wanting to buy EOTech sights. When I explain that I can't export them, they come up with ways to get around it. "Ship it to my cousin, and he'll send it to me." At that point, if I ship it, I become an accessory to a crime. No thanks.

If the sight is intercepted, both the shipper and recipient get in hot water.
