Shooting a 22 Short in a 22LR chamber. Browning 1911-22

I know that you should fire a 22 Short in a 22 Short chamber. However I bought a Browning 1911 22 that shoots 22LR only. Of course the directions state that you should not fire anything but a 22LR.
I would alike to fire 22 Short sub sonics through this little pistol. I have reservations because the pistol is based on the M1911 design. Has anyone ever fired 22 Short sub sonics through a semi auto pistol? Has anyone ever fired short sub sonics through the browning 1911-22?

If you use .22 Short, it almost certainly won't cycle the slide. It should fire and extract fine single-loaded, though.

Shorts probably won't feed properly into the chamber from the magazine and won't, of course, cycle the slide. Why don't you shoot long rifle subsonics or something really quiet like CCI Quiets (has long rifle dimensions and bullet weight) ? They will feed fine, but you will still have to cycle the slide by hand.

I tried the subsonic 60gr 'long' out of my CZ. It didn't cycle the slide.

You can shoot them just fine. Browning probably doesn't want someone sending the gun back claiming that the short won't eject and that the gun is defective.

It isn't defective though . . . it is just set up to cycle correctly with .22LR ammo.

My Ruger MkII target pistol is the same way of course. Shoot the shorts with confidence, then manually eject.

The rate of twist in the barrel may not produce great accuracy with shorts.

Try Aguila SSS .22lr. 69 grain bullet quiet as a church mouse. SSS stands for subsonic sniper.

It will not hurt a thing.

You will need to clean the carbon out of the chamber with a brush & solvent before switching back to LR ammo though.

My experiance with Aguila SSS 60 grain loads is, they are very loud out of a handgun compaired to Aguila Colobri or CCI CB caps.

CCI makes a nice CB cap that is loaded into a 22LR-sized cartridge. It might feed a little more reliably, but of course you'll have to cycle the slide by hand.

It'll be fine but will work just like a .22lr colibri round. You'll have to manually cycle the slide after every shot and they won't function from the magazine so you'll be loading each shot by hand too.

If you want to do this regularly I suspect the single feeding will soon become a bit of a pain in the backside. If you want to shoot options from .22LR all the way down to CB caps and everything in between buying a rimfire revolver of some form sounds like a good idea.
