My church holds training sessions, authorized by the preacher and supervised by local LEOs, a good idea for any church where you have to worry about shooting back and maybe hitting a friend with a stray bullet

Probably not. The vast majority of armed robberies end with no shots fired. For me to draw and fire, I need to be pretty dang sure that it is a better plan than waiting for the guy to leave. Meaning, I REALLY think he's going to shoot someone. If NOT, I would much rather get out the nearest exit. My carry permit does not come with a cape.

My first concearn is to my family, getting them to safety. If a gunfight is necesary then so be it. For GOD will truly sort it out.

Once my family is secure,or is not present I would have no problem coming to the aid of the congregation. Ideally the time to bring the fued is when they don't expect it or see you coming.

It's all make believe... Until somebody gets serious..

Shooting Back - The Right and Duty of Self-Defense [Kindle Edition]
Charl van Wyk (Author), Larry Pratt (Foreword), Peter Hammond (Introduction)

Book Description
The distinct staccato of automatic fire from assault rifles—followed by scattered screams—shattered the silence of the Sunday evening service.

A band of terrorists burst into the sanctuary and began executing, with icy effectiveness, their heinous plans of mass murder.

This church massacre would have claimed even more than the 11 lives and 53 injured recorded that day if not for one man. Armed with just a snub-nosed .38 revolver and crouching behind a pew, he dared shoot back—sending the terrorists running away with him in hot pursuit.

This is the true story of Charl van Wyk and it’s one that anybody who values the right to defend their life, and the lives of others, should know. Such a personal experience stirred Van Wyk to do something few have done—provide a thorough Biblical exploration of the matter of armed self-defense.

He forthrightly deals with the consequences of his actions, and directly addresses the concerns that plague many God-fearing men, including: Should Christian men carry arms? When is it appropriate to defend ourselves and our families? What can Christians do when our God-given right to self-defense is being legislated away from us?

As an ex-South African and first namesake of Charl van Wyk (no I don't know him personally :)), who has lived in South Africa during some of the bad terrorist attacks, I fully endorse this book.
I remember clearly the shock and trauma our country was subjected to on that day, back in July 1993 in Cape Town.
Thank you Charl for sharing your experiences and thoughts.
Have Kindle and will also download it tonight and read it as well.
