Shooting groups from a rest/vise

When you are shooting to see what combination gives you the best grouping -- what rest or vise are y'all shooting from? I'm not finding many pistol rest options on the market -- that tells me that either shooters don't use them...shooters make due with the rifle vises...or shooters buy the few that are on the market and are happy with those -- I have a plastic Caldwelll but precise adjustments on it aren't the easiest (but hey it's $20 so you cant ask for too much)...if I need to modify it with thread bolts in the rear so I can raise the rear up or down...right now it only raises in the front.

Ransom Rest is not an option -- i'd rather spend the money on bullets...

Most just shoot of a bench or other fixed station where they can get a steady hold. Sand bags or other front rest helps with rifles and some handguns.

I bought a 2 piece rifle sand bag set. I use the smaller of the 2 and make it work when I am shooting my pistols from a rest. I'm sure there are better ways, but I bought the bags for like $3 at a yard sale. I will see when I get home if I can find a brand on them.

Take some old trouser legs and make sand bags , put your sand in a zip lock bag before putting it in the leg then sew up both ends, make small and large sizes stack them to get the height need to rest the frame or barrel on the bag while your hands rest on another bag. You cant get much steadier only with a machine rest and you don't want to pay the $ for that.

For rifle, I've been using a lead sled dft. Not really so much for the recoil reducing (although on bigger calibers it is nice) but it has both elevation and windage adjustments and holds the gun completely still.

The only handgun I've been loading for (so far) is my TC encore pistol. I've only shot it once at the range and used a granite rest. I ordered up a harris benchrest bipod that I'm going to try out. I think that will be the ticket.

Once I get good loads worked up, I intend on varying my shooting positions/rests to hone my shooting skills, knowing the capabilities of the bullets/gun.
