I'm in the market for a new pistol, it's been too long since I've bought a new one outright, and that bothers me. However, I don't want a poly gun, I want something with either a steel or alum frame in 9 or .45. I require DA/SA preferred with decocker, but as long as it's DA/SA, it's ok. I don't want any slide mounted safeties, all the controls must be on the frame. I was thinking of the following:

CZ-75B or BD
CZ P-01
SIG P228
SIG P220 (old, no rail, I hate rails added after the fact)

I want something with some weight to it, and I don't like super compact pistols, but the P228 speaks for itself, and the P-01 has a reputation that proceeds it. I like the CZ-75b for several reasons (look, steel, capacity, weight), but am unsure if it's not-quite-as-good as the P-01, as this is to be a carry pistol, reliability and durability are of the utmost. I'd like a pistol that can eat a stead diet of warm ammunition, and has a following of aftermarket parts and a design that lets me detail strip and potentially replace parts if needed. I know these sound like ridiculous requirements, but I want a pistol that will last me the rest of my natural life, even if it's got replacement parts in it. Forgot to mention, I love my FNP9-M, but I'd like something just slightly taller. Right now, my pinky rests on the magazine, which is fine and all, but I have to move my finger when reloading or I get a pinch from hell. A quarter inch longer grip would be perfect.

Pics are of COURSE welcome.

I've never heard even a rumor of someone "wearing out" a CZ or a Sig. You've created a short list of GREAT choices. Me? I'm a CZ 75B fan. But any of the rest of 'em can happily ride in my holster anytime, anywhere.

Had two CZ SP-01's and loved both, but moved onto 45's. No other gun has fit my hand like that SP-01. Very accurate too.

Man, hard (no, IMPOSSIBLE) to go wrong with those choices. Personally, I think CZ gives better bang for the buck than Sig, so I'd lean to the 75BD or the P-01. The P-01 has a light rail and would be more concealable (if you plan to CCW), but the grip can be short (yet, my big hands don't get pinched or anything, so I wouldn't worry about a short grip).

In an all metal gun, my faves are:
-- in 45 acp, the 1911
-- in 9mm, I like th Browning Hi-Power & the HK P7M8.

Right now I'm leaning toward the CZs b/c I can buy one brand new for the price of a used SIG (I don't want to have to gunbroker one).

However, I'm torn between the 75 and the P-01. I like the steel and the full size of the 75, but the P-01 is touted as an "improvement" on the 75. I wonder, is it more reliable, more accurate, and a better pistol, or does it just have a light weight frame and a more curved trigger? They fill my head with this NATO tested foolishness, is a better pistol, or has it just been certified, while the 75 was never marketed as such a piece?

I'd go w/ a Sig:) More specifically, the new P229 SCT .40 that comes w/ four 14rd mags. Front cocking serrations and TFO front sight aren't a bad thing either. Good all-around size, and good all-around caliber that can easily be converted to .357sig or 9mm w/ a barrel swap. Just my 2 cents..but i'd take a compact Sig w/ 15 rounds of some potent .40 loads over any of the other choices you listed. If I had to go with something on your list, it would be the P220 w/ no rails.

I personally like light rails, because it's always a great thing to know that your gun is capable of being a night-time bed gun just by clipping on a Surefire or TLR-2 light. Any Sig w/ crimson trace laser grips, a powerful LED light up front, and night sights is an unbeatable combination IMO. Oddly enough, I think the non-railed P220s look better than the newer ones with rails.

i would go with the sig they will last you a life time, which dosen't seem to be the case with many cz's as i have heard about not making it through trainning courses, in particualar tactical response.
