What a gorgeous gun. One to be extra proud of; one, it was Dad’s, two, a very special a beautiful gun in it’s own right.

Thanks so much for sharing. And glad to see that you are shooting it and enjoying it that much more.

That's one lovely Mdl 15! Engraving is tasetfully subdued. You know what George Patton would have said about those grips though. :)

BTW a letter to Roy Jinks shouid answer your question as to factory, or not.

Yep, LOL. I have the factory wood grips (pristine) but I threw these imitation pearl on just to see what they looked like. The curve at the top doesn't line up with the engraving of course, which follows the line of the factory wood grips.

Howdy

Lovely piece. I kind of doubt the engraving is factory, with the steel inside the engraving being raw.

A letter from the S&W historical society would probably answer that.

You want the Letter of Authenticity, which is what the Factory Letter is called today. Yes, it will cost $100, but I think the gun and your Dad's memory are well worth that.

Be sure to keep it well oiled so the raw steel in the engraving does not rust.

The K-38 Combat Masterpiece only came with a four inch barrel, like this one:

Once it became the Model 15, a two inch barrel was an option.

However that certainly does not mean your Dad's gun is not a fine revolver.

Continue to honor him and shoot it in good health.

Thanks guys. Here's the video from the first time I shot it for any interested.

was that you? I remember that video. I had just gotten a LNIB maybe never fired 15-2 4”. I was searching YouTube videos for model 15’s and yours caught my eye. Still so pretty I haven’t fired it yet. My son is definitely drawn to it. It will be his one day. We shoot other guns together so I haven’t felt the itch to shoot this one yet

Yep, that's a real beautiful revolver for sure. Thanks for the video as it was a real treat just to watch you shoot it!

Patton was replying to a news man who asked if his Registered 357 Magnum, one of the first ones issued, had pearl grips.

He replied:"Son, only a pimp in a Louisiana whore-house carries pearl-handled revolvers. These are ivory.

I know that.
These are a once-popular brand (ETA Jay Scott) of plastic available in "pearl", "black pearl", "stag", and "ivory". All recognizable by the wood backing.

I've owned one of each, so I know how lucky you are. The Python was my Dad's, I bought the Model 15 at the LGS I worked at. Wish I still had them both.
