Hey folks! So, I have a quick question...
I live in Michigan, and I'm setting up a home defense shotgun. As it is right now the Barrel is 19" and it's about 29-1/2" overall with the pistol grip.
Now, it's to my understanding that up until a couple years ago in Michigan guns between 26" and 30" needed to be registered as a pistol. However that's no longer the case, right?
So, long story short, I'm wondering if my shotgun as is needs to be registered, or am I all good?
Thanks in advance!

Any store that sells guns can give you a more knowledgable answers then I can in Kansas.

However, I can use Google in Kansas, as I'm sure you can there too.

Michigan firearms laws.
See section 28.421 (E).

It sounds like 26" OAL is the determining factor.

But, don't take my word for it.
Ask a local gun store.
They are very aware of what the laws are.

Thanks, guys. I did Google it, and was pretty confident that it was 26". I guess I was just looking for someone else to confirm it...

Yep, we got rid of that requirement. Although it was stupid you had to register such long guns, it was kinda nice being able to keep it loaded in your vehicle with a CPL

If the shotgun was registered as a pistol before they changed it isn't it grandfathered in? I thought I read that somewhere.
I dunno, I'm just happy that I don't have to register my shotgun.

Yes, as long as you are the same owner from when the law was in effect. I assumed this was a new shotgun.

It is new.
I was just asking about them being grandfathered in in reference to being able to carry them in a car loaded with a CPL. Just a curiosity thing, I guess.

Oh, cool man. I set up an account on there last night, and asked them. They also confirmed that my shotgun is all good. Thanks for your help, folks!
