Well as the " Why are gun stores/dealers the only business to charge credit card fees" thread has spun outta control (mostly my fault) maybe this Poll will see how people really feel. I voted yes obviously.

If I was a gun store owner, I would. It's a way to say thank you. I'd probably also offer some other discounts, maybe an NRA discount, senior discount, and some other discounts.

In a town like Colorado Springs (Ft. Carson, Peterson AFB, USAFA, and Shriever AFB ) it would get you quite a bit of business.

I'd just add Fire & EMS to the list

Umm, maybe I'm just a complete newb, but what's LE? The military discount would be nice, particularly if they sell ammo in bulk. I'd shop there.

I voted no, but upon further consideration, I would mark my prices up 10% and offer discounts to so many groups that everyone would get the discount and feel special.

I'd say it depends on just what the markup on the gun IS, considering most shops don't have much of a markup, that would be a bit more of a dip into profits, would it be a nice thing to do though? Yes.

IF the store can afford to give those discounts, then yea, they should go for it, if that's going to drastically harm their bottom line though, well they have to pay their workers and eat themselves, so in that case, I'd say no.

I voted no. I think it's a nice gesture and all, and no doubt they would be deserving of it, but alot of police agencies will tell their police to steer clear of buying anything from anybody that gives LEO's a discount. I had the chief of police of my local jurisdiction, come to my restaurant one time and I gave him a discount without him asking for it, he told me that he would tell his officers not to frequent my restaurant anymore if I continued to give discounts to his officers.

My favorite gun store has both and a 5% NRA discount. If your not LE/military then you can still get a discount if you choose.

When I had my gun buisness I offered discounts to LEO's and military which meant I made next to nothing off of them but I feel it was worth it. I don't think store should be forced to do it. Oh and I gave a cash discount to everyone!

For what ever reason they choose if for nothing else maybe the person will go back to their agency and or base and have nothing but something good to say about the place. You gotta think alot of new military guys are young and respect others reviews of a place so wouldn't you want a guy to come in get a discount or good deal and then go back to where he works where there is about 10,000 goverment employees and say go here they take care of military guys. I mean granted you won't make much money on each individual sale but if you look at the big picture you could make alot.

What are we thanking them for? I personally don't want them to do most of what they do if we are talking about the LE. In our town, police officers have a pretty decent salary. No, they aren't getting rich, but they aren't starving either.

This is a fun thread. I can't believe that I will be the first person to throw in the key words of capitalism, free market, and the equality inherent in the pure actualization of such systems. And then someone will say "hey it's their store, let them do what they want." And then someone else will say "Fine I won't shop there then". Some other types of stores do offer discounts to their steady customers. I don't quite see the same type of thing with gun shops as LE may need a new gun every few years or more while a contractor will spend thousands a year at on tools, hardware, and building materials. To give a LE or military person a discount for a gun used for personal use doesn't quite seem right to me.

Well said Quiet Earp I certainly don't think of giving a mandatory discount but at the store's option of course. And just like you said in my opinion I would not shop there if I can avoid it.

I voted no. They way the question is worded is a little tricky though. I would offer it if I had a gun store, but it is every buisness owners right to offer discounts as they see fit or prefer. If they prefer to not offer any discount that is their right and it should be respected.

Should Gun Stores Give Military/LE Discounts ?

I agree with Earp. Put my vote down for "if the proprietors so choose."

It's their choice.. As to should they heck if I know. LEO discounts are a fuzzy line as mentioned earlier.

Military discounts are fine and if I owned a store next to a Base you can bet I'd have one based on pure Capitalism but would make sure that all good customers received it as well.

If it were my place, I would offer a military discount, based solely on my own personal sentiments regarding our men and women in uniform, past or present.

As retired navy, I want one and I'd take it if available. It's my money.
