Should I get a PSL?

Ahem....

In my opinion, without the safety sear, this rifle is a hand grenade. I had a case head blow out on mine, for what I believe was an incomplete chambering due to the location on the cartridge case where it happened. Smoke in the eye, bowed top cover, very scarey.

The vagaries in the dimensions of the surplus ammo, combined with what seemed to be a snug chamber on mine, led to a catastrophic result. I do not know what happened for sure, but the case didn't eject. I *believe* that perhaps it might have been incompletely chambered. The chamber area at the boltface/chamber interface is reverse tapered to allow bolt fit, and I think that may have been a contributing factor to the kaboom. I don't know for sure, and never will.

I would strongly consider buying a different rifle

I bought my PSL about 6 years ago while on my quest for the ultimate pig hunting rig. The rifle does well and I have taken game with it but too long for the job in blind hunting or working around in heavy brush. I settled on the AR-10 and M-21 sniper as my primary pig hunting rigs.
I will say my PSL does shoot very well and I would feel confident shooting at game out to about 300 yards and I have no intention of getting rid of it. My opinion is if you want one then go ahead and get it. The accuracy is "good enough" for hunting aplications, 1" to 2" at 100 yards depending on ammo, rifle and shooter. If you want a semi-auto target rifle to shoot 1" or less at 100 yards get a good AR-10 or one of the upper end M1a's.

These rifles seem really neat and like a lot of fun. I don't want to miss out! I never see them at the range but many people including myself has AR's, AK's etc. The cool and something different factor definately applies here. Plus I'm not sure how long we'll be able to keep getting them...should have gotten a SVD when I had the chance! So I've placed my order! The feedback was great I like to consider the good and bad. I'll be sure the rifle goes fully into battery with different ammo...thanks for the info #26. Hopefully my PSL will be one of the accurate ones!

I shot mine this morning

I was banging the gong offhand at 100-150 yds with no problem

The only problem I had was with some albanian ammo that SG sent me by mistake...I one round that would not feed and jammed the action open far enough it would not fire (luckily)

One tap on the charging handle with a rock took care of it:)

With good light ball I have never had any issues

Once I use up the last of this albanian I will NEVER shoot any more

Here are 10 shots offhand with some wicked sun glare in my right eye.....all I could really see was the outline of the target

I call that MOBG (minute of bad guy)

Sitting I can make head shots at that range

I had a 10" fish plate that I hit every time from that range

The other errant holes were from trying to use the iron sites with my left eye...because of the glare....won't try that again:eek:
