Should I trade me G30 for a G30S?

I have a Glock 30, and it's lovely. The only problem is the thickness. It's an absolute brick. I've been looking at the 30S, and I'm wondering if I should trade it out. Something in the size range of the G19 and chambered in 45 sounds fantastic. I'm not super keen on being rid of the G30, though, since it is a great nightstand gun. Any thoughts?

The one thing about the G36 is the thin slide, I also would love the SF frame that's still double stack.

I have a G30 and a G30SF, as well as a G36. The G30 fits me the best, but they are all good. The 36 slide will fit both the other frames.

30S will definitely carry better as its lighter and thinner. But as far as being softer shooter and nightstand gun the regular 30 has it beat for sure. I'd probably just save up for the 30s and carry that and keep the 30 as nightstand duty

I like the idea of getting the G36! Let's you have a G36, a G30, and (essentially) a G30S!

That's how the G30S originated, by people swapping the slides.

The G30S is just the factory turn key version.

A friend got the 36, and it was interesting, but I tend to want round count. The 30S has the SF frame as well, so slimmer grip, slimmer slide both. I think I will just save up and find a 30S or maybe trade off something else I am not currently using enough.

yes- keep the regular as a spare and or nightstand gun... especially if mags work between the choice you make.

tallpaul, that was exactly my thought. Sharing of magazines, and a different profile entirely.

No simply because you can covert it to 10mm. Just something to think about.

For about a year I've carried a G30s plainclothes and a G41 on duty. Before that I carried a G22 & G27. For me, I liked the slimmer slide. Many of the holsters I already had also fit the new Glocks. Granted, the 41 required a duty holster for a G34/35.

They are great shooters.

Personally, I don't usually sell guns that work well. My G22 & G27 spend their days in the safe now.

If you can't get the price you want for the G30, consider keeping a vetted reliable handgun.

4banger,

In a word, no. That G30 is one heck of a gun. They are relatively soft shooting, accurate, carry 10, and can take a G21 mag. My load out for that gun is the gun, a G30 mag in it, and a pair of G21 mags in my holders.

The G30 family is but 0.17 thicker than the G36. I understand personal preferences, but that small of a number is not the difference between a Brick and a Not-A-Brick.

Keep it, and happy shooting.

Your second sentence kind of cancels itself out...

For a lot of people, that small number is a difference (it is also at the part that is against your body when carrying; the grip can cant out, being less of an issue). I didn't mind carrying a 19 when off duty, back when I was with a department that issued it. Few guys had 30 pistols back than, and when I tried it out, it was noticeably thicker. This was way before the 30S was produced. I read about putting 36 slides on the 30 frame, but I wanted a gun straight from a company... not putting one together from two.

When I moved to a different agency, I started looking at Glocks for an off duty gun. The 30S came out, and it really is a 19 in .45. Picked one up, and been very happy with it.
