I’m a newbie to suppressors. Trying to get my bearing so any help or info appreciated.

I’ve got a Bergara Ridge SP in 308 Winchester. Per specs, the OD of the barrel is .701 and is factory threaded with 5/8X24 pitch. Barrel is #5 contour if that matters.

I’m looking to direct thread a YHM R2, and have recently learned about shoulder height.

Am I good as it relates to shoulder height?

TBAC says your outside diameter needs to be at least 0.1" greater than your thread pitch, which your barrel does not have. https://thunderbeastarms.com/tech/thread-specifications

For a shoulder less than 0.1", they suggest trying a face mount brake that sits against the muzzle. I'm not sure what all mounting options you have for a YHM R2, but I think I would be looking at something other than direct thread for that barrel.

A quick look at the YHM site indicates that the newer (post 2020?) R2s are threaded with the HUB spec (1-3/8x24) in the rear. If yours is HUB compatible, then that opens up a lot of mounting options for finding a face mount brake. I know that Dead Air makes a Keymo face mount flash hider in 5/8x24 that was designed for the SCAR 17, but should work for you. TBAC makes a face mount brake, but they don't list it for sale on their site. It is probably their CB attachment system, for which their are a couple of options for HUB adapters.

Thanks for your input, Rio Laxas.

Yes, my R2 is post 2020 construction and should be HUB compatible.

Now, the R2 did come with a muzzle break and QD mount. Would the YHM 4302 muzzle device work with my shoulder height?

Here is a link to the muzzle device it comes with, https://yhm.net/q-d-muzzle-brakes/phantom-q-d-muzzle-brakes/

You should be fine as long as you don't use a mount or muzzle device with a substantial radius or chamfer leading into the threads.

We recommend at least .040" shoulder width for rifle cans, which would be .705" diameter for 5/8, but people certainly get away with less. Our mounts have a counterbore .010" over thread major with a .005" corner radius, which means barrel shoulders over .645 will have square mating surface, but you want it to be wide enough that they won't deform it or ride up over one side with torque applied.

Thanks, @MachIVshooter appreciate your info.

I’ve got a silencerco bravo direct thread mount and the yhm qd mounts that came with the suppressor.

In your opinion, do you think either of those would work out alright?

Thread-on works for rimfire. It scares me on centerfire rifle. I used it briefly before dropping the cash on locking mount. There were too many times where a suppressor loosened in just one mag for it to be sustainable. Rocksett muzzle device and locking suppressor mount is worth the peace of mind.
I even have a silencerco muzzle brake on a 16" barrel 9mm, which is beyond useless except for quick/secure suppressor attachment.
