right now I carry a SA 1911 stainless and a 340pd as a BUG. I had some issues with my 1911 after a few years of faithfull use. After a pretty good rebuilt and some filing I got it working great again, but only having one carry weapon other than my backup got to me and is killing my self confidence. I love the 1911 model and wouldnt say anything bad about it, but I think its time to diversify a little. I do not like Glocks, I have owned and carried one and just couldnt get over my emotional feelings about lack of a standard safety. I like HK but I am a lefty and they dont really do much for us. I like Smith and wesson also, but their recent models dont do much for me. So this brings me to Sig. A good reputation, and a single action model with a dual ambi safety and rail which I would put an m6x light on and carry in a safrailand holster.

My 1911 is definitely a better shooter than I am, the weight helps me for sure, but the accuracy is just unbelievable. Its not an overly tight gun, but I didnt want it too be for my purposes. The sig with the m6x is about 35oz about 5oz shy of the 1911, but Im hoping that the forward weight of the light will make up for that. Besides if I can control an 11oz 357 with 1 and 7/8" barrel, Im sure I can deal with loosing the 50z of weight on the sig.

Bottom line, how does it shoot, how is the reliability, and how is the wear?

Thanks guys!

You can have mine........:scrutiny:

It's a very reliable, well built gun, accurate as all hell, easy to break down and clean, but the one I have (da/sa) has a heavy trigger pull, and the grip puts pressure on either a blood vessel or nerve in my shooting hand that causes me to shake after shooting only a few rounds through it.
That's not to say the P220 would do the same to you, but it's something to consider before buying one.

From my experience, SIG's aren't really lefty-friendly. HK OTOH makes lefty varients that you can choose from...
Check our a P2000 before you decide ;)

I didnt think HK made any left hand friendly models?

As far as the trigger pull on the SAO its 5lbs since its single action only its always 5lbs, about .75lbs heavier than I am used too with my 1911 but much lighter than my 340pd...not major issue...I would think about getting hogue grips though.

Gonna check for a lefty HK now though...thanks guys.

In November Sig is supposed to come out with a "P220 Match" verion. SAO, beavertail, target sights and 5" match grade barrel. Another option; a railed P220 "Carry" with the 3.9" barrel would be a cool option meeting your needs/wants.

there were no sig P220 SAO I could locate in the country through my distributor that weren't two tone. I settled on the HK USP45 full size var 2 (maybe settled isnt the right word lol)

Anyway, now the hart part comes in...it seems no one makes a holster for the USP with a weaponlight (this absolutely was not an issue with the p220 :cuss: )

if you guys wouldnt mind taking a look at my holster post, I would appreciate it! http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=2742378#post2742378

Ken Lunde over at Sigforum has the only P220 SAO (it's actually a P220 Carry) that I know of. You might ask him (can't get to Sigforum right now to get you his actual user name). Do a search for p220 sao and you should find his gun porn thread. :)

Thanks for the info John. I had been trying to get on the sigforum for about 24 hours but apparently my account hasnt been "approved" yet.

Its ok, I went ahead and had HK send my distributor the USP 45 var 2 LE full size. It comes with a bunch of hi cap mags and some other neat stuff and is obviously brand new. I never liked plastic guns, but and HK is an HK after all.

I should have it by thursday, along with the streamlight TRL2 and the appropriate adapter (which Im hoping fits right) :D

Tony at Milk Sparks directed me to another holster maker "Rusty Sherrick" who is going to see if he can get streamlight to send him a TLR2 and he will make some custom leather , Im keeping my fingers crossed. Until then I ordered a generic Bianchi tac-light holster that should get me by (I hope). Its going to take me around 600 rounds before I want to carry it anyway...so that gives me two weeks.

HK's

You can have a smith or the factory flip the lever from the left side to the right.

var 2 is for a lefty straight from the factory :D thats the only difference from var 1. There was apparently only 1 left in the US distribution network that my guy goes through...which is ridiculous because lefties are a minority...but geeze we arent extinct! :banghead:
