My carry guns have for years been 1911's. My current carry sidearm is an inherited 1911, who's sentimental value has pushed it to the point I can no longer feel comfortable keeping it in that role. I've been transitioning, slowly(30 years of 1911 can not be changed rapidly), to a SIG 226. I prefer a .45, by a wide margin, and I'm not wild about DA autos, so I have been looking at the SAO 220's. The 226 is a fine pistol, it feels good in the hand, functions flawlessly, except for being new fangled(LOL mine is of W. German mfg), not good for condition 1 carry:what:, and 9 mil, it really has impressed me.

My problem is every time I feel just about settled on the 220, I start salivating over the S&W Gunsite 1911. I think my mind believes moving towards the 21st Century would be a good thing, my heart belongs to the 1911, and I still believe it is the finest 'platform' ever developed for personal defense weapons.

I really am right on the fence. Either one would serve it's intended purpose fully. My mind slightly favors the SIG, modern design, rugged and dependable. My heart says 1911, cause, you know, come on it's a 1911!

Give me a nudge off the fence, SIG or S&W 1911, and of course, a little reason why you think I should go that way.

While I love both guns (I have two SW1911s, not gunsite though, and I have a 220 Carry SAO), I have to say go with the 1911. The Sig is great, but the 1911 has many parts/upgrades/customizables and they can be found very easily. The Sig? Not so much.

I know what you are going through, though. When I bought the Sig, I was on the fence between it and a SA Loaded Champion. Finally went with the Sig, but kinda wish I went with the SA... maybe someday. That is the bad thing about being on the fence - eventually you will just have to let fence hit you in the privates and get both guns!:D

Hearing and seeing are two different things in my opinion. SIGs are still fine weapons. As for the OP why not settle both urges with getting a SIG 1911?

I've heard otherwise. Careful assuming the new Sig's are dependable like the old ones.

LOL, fear not, I have done my due diligence. I think you missed my joke when I said "The 226 is a fine pistol, it feels good in the hand, functions flawlessly, except for being new fangled(LOL mine is of W. German mfg)", how 'new fangled' can a pistol made in a country that has not existed for , what, almost 18 years now, really be?

R12GS, thanks, LOL, ask for an opinion on 2 pistols, get nudged toward a third. I did look at the SIG 1911, that fluting on it's slide bothered me, that is all. Ole Slab Sides, must have slab sides. But I did think of that also, it just isn't quite what I want.(I can ignore cocking serrations)

Pster, thank you for your reply.

Dragon, Do you know me?:eek: Yeah, my privates are prepared for impact.:what: Maybe I should have asked which I should buy first, but man, there is a cherry SSA I kind of got my eyes on.

Thanks to all of you for replying.:)
