I am seeking a Sig 220 to buy, in California.

In my town I am being offered one at "98%." It has no rail, a german stamp on the slide (newer mag release), and 4 Sig 7-round mags.

He is asking $770.

Your opinion?

Not bad, considering.......

Just do a thorough inspection of it before you commit.

I carry a P-220 every day for duty and I love it.

But, like with anything else, until you really get a chance to go out and shoot it you just won't know:banghead:

Ask him to (or if you can) field strip it at the store (will you get a chance to test fire?), check the barrel, check for spots that are wearing prematurely, check the mag well for damage. Do the mags move around alot? Do they seat well and firm? Is there any sign of beginning rust/tarnish? Keep an eye out for all those things that just don't look right or seem right.......

Personally, IMHO, you are SO CLOSE to the cost of a brand new one (minus all those extra mags), I would just eat the extra and get a shiny new toy. That way YOU will know EXACTLY what has been done to/with this weapon.

I'm not a huge fan of buying used weapons unless it came from a friend or family member, and I have a good sense of the "history" of it. Places like Kittery Trading Post in ME are trustworthy, my local shop I trust too....but beyond that it's just too much and "unknown" for such a serious toy. You mentioned that they are "7 round mags".....are you sure they aren't 8 rounders??? Is this a Cali. limitation??

Good quesions and Great advice.
Cali limits are 10 round mags, and Sig 220 original mags are 7 rounds.
I think spending an extra $150 to get me a virgin gun is the way to go.

Ouch, that seems high.

I have bought three West German-made Sig P220s, and I didn't pay more than $450 for any of them. Even adjusting for time and location, anything over seven seems really high.

By the way - The ACT/Novak mags are about $20/each. I would not value two extra mags, even if they say Sig on the side, more than $40 about the 'normal' price for the pistol.

if you are ok with law enforcement trade in weapons; then summitgunbroker.com ussually has sig 220's in the low $400's often. Send him and email; he also sells new so could have some deals there.

Thanks for the comments. Summit Gun Broker seems overwhelmed by the flood of business transactions right now.

While I don't know CA's market prices, that sounds high. I just picked up a lightly used 220ST (all stainless) w/ 4 mags in San Antonio for $550.
