I am thinking of a new 9 for CCW. I am looking for ease of concealment, accuracy, and reliablility, and of course price must considered. Of these two guns, which would you choose, and why ?

I'm a BIG CZ fan, and have (and have had) a bunch of them -- and presently have only one SIG (a GSR). (I've had a 210-6, 220, and 239, all fine guns.)

The P-01 is a thick gun. Unless you want the accessories rail, go with the 228, as its slimmer and more concealable.

Both are great guns.

Why? a world class double-stack (13 round) weapon with highly touted
reliability, and extremely good accuracy.

PO1, ditto, except 14 rounds, and half the price....Also PCR same pistol, same mag cap, no M3 rail. I can CCW my PO1 with no problem, though...

These two are both very good guns, not a bad choice to be made here so it really comes down to personal preference.

You will pay much more for the SIG....yet you will not be getting a better product. Get the CZ (PCR if you don't need the light rail and want to carry it CCW) and then use the rest of the $ toward your next gun. :)

I don't care for Sigs so keep that in mind.

The CZ is a better value. In either you get a DA/SA with a decocker only, an alloy frame, 13-14 rounds on tap, excellent accuracy and excellent reliability. It really comes down to how much you want to pay and whether you want the pride of ownership that comes with the Sig. They are both ergonomic in their design, high quality and will probably outlast you. So why pay the extra $200-$300 for the Sig?

FWIW- I owned the CZ P01 and was really happy with the fit, finish, quality, etc. It was just a little to thick due to the rail. I may pick up a PCR before all is said and done.

I like the P228. I trust it, since I've never used a P-01, but have used other Sigs. The P228 is very reliable, durable and easy to shoot. The CZ may be, too, I just don't have experience with them. (I do with the CZ-75s, though.)

Just my preference.

I have both....sorta

I just acquired a P228 and have had a CZ-75D "PCR" for a few years. The PCR is the same gun as the P-01 without the light rail and bulky front shroud. The P-01 is not as nice a CCW gun as the PCR which is also still made due to its demand. I did a comparison of the P228 and PCR recently. My conclusion was they are similar in accuracy, capacity and reliability, but the P228 is "service" size pistol, while the PCR is a true compact and better for CCW. Both are fine weapons. I recently considered both and ended up with the 228. I found one NIB for a good price and couldn't resist. It came with the 2-for-$20 magazine coupon. I'm extremely happy with it. It's dead nuts accurate and reliable. I can't say if it is any better weapon than the p-01, but it will hold its value better. I'd still like a p-01 when cash flow allows it.

I used to have a 228, but it was too fat for my hands. I've fired both, and I can tell you that nothing beats a Sig trigger for smoothness. The Sig also won out on accuracy, though only by a hair.

The CZ was a REALLY nice gun, though, and if they'd make one for those of us with girly hands, I'd be on it in a second. Either one is a superb choice, I'm just biased toward the Sig.

My vote goes to neither for CCW.... Id go with the CZ RAMI, looks like a sweet little piece for CCW

I've been eyeballin' the RAMI for awhile myself. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with my P01....but there's just something about that little RAMI....

My 2 cents worth, Both are very very good weapons. However, the SIG's widespread use has developed a huge assortment of carry gear available for it. IWB, paddles, OWB, and shoulder rigs are available, many at outlets like gander or sportsman's warehouse. All things being equal that would make the decision for me, (I know CZ gear is out there, it just is not AS available). Also, for me the SIG fits my hand better. '

Beauty and the eye of the beholder. I find the P-01 to be the more comely than SIG, and as far as class, I'm not sure how or in what way a SIG can be worlds head. Perhaps a bit more elaboration is in order.

I have minimal experience with the CZ series, much more with the Sig line. If you can get one of the factory certified pre-owned Sigs, price difference should be minimal. With that in mind, I would go with the Sig. I'm comfortable with the manual of arms, and there will be no doubt about its relability.

I have a P228 and I'm considering the CZ P-01 as my next purchase. I haven't shot one yet (hoping to tomorrow night!) so I can't compare the accuracy yet. Ergonomically, the biggest difference I noticed is that the slide release for the CZ is quite a stretch. I have fairly big hands (which is why I like bigger guns) but even I had to turn and stretch to release it. With the Sig, the release is right above your thumb when you grip the pistol. To me it's easier -- but then again, it also makes it easier to engage accidentally if your shooting grip is off.

Just for the record, you can get 15-rd flush-fit MecGar mags (and they are the OEM for Sig) for the P228. They run about $20 each. The 14-rd factory mags for the P-01 run around $38, or you can get 15-rd Mec-Gars which will extend beyond that bottom of the mag well about 1/4 inch. CZ has 40P base plates that you can install to fill that gap -- although they are currently out of stock (for at least 30 days).

CDNN was offering some pre-owned Sigs. They fall under the Certified Pre-Owned program, which offers a warranty. They were listing them for $369. Sigs are reliable enough that I wouldn't hesitate to buy a CPO.

I think, for me, it would come down to whichever one felt the most comfortable and shot the best. Comfort is probably easy to judge in the gun shop -- accuracy is another story!

Good luck and let us know what you pick!
Jim

I have both and love both. The P-01 fits my hand better but I recently put a Hogue wrap around grip with finger grooves on the 228 and it is now a better fit in my hand. You cannot go wrong with either. Hold both and buy which ever fits your hand better.
