SIG 230 SL Stainless / Refinishing question

I acquired this pistol some time ago for $425. Like most pistols in this class, it’s been carried far more than it’s been shot. The picture doesn’t show the superficial scratches as well as I would like. None of the scratches are deep. Figured I could clean the gun up without too much trouble. Trying to call SIG and find out what grit they recommend for the job is a complete waste of time. They either won’t help or will not take the time to find out. Have any of you refinished the flat surfaces on one of these slides? If so, I would appreciate it if you would let me know what type grit was used and the steps taken in this process.

If your looking for a matte finish, I'd find someone with a bead/media blasting cabinet. A local machine shop could probably hook you up.

Instead of sandpaper try a red Scotchbrite pad. Strokes all in the same direction and pick it up at the end of each stroke. No back and forth.
