I am thinking of buy a compact 45acp...I am not interested a 1911...(have one)..anyway the Sig 245 keeps coming to mind...I would like some opinions before I lay down hard cash...I had a 220 sold it...really like the gun but needed the money...I also have a 228 that is one gun I will not part with...I like it almost as much as my BHP...are the 245's as good as the other Sigs... other suggestions for a compact 45 acp would be welcome also...this will be a ccw piece

The first time I shot a P245 was a friend's. I put 6 rounds in the head of an IPSC target at about 25-30' (taking my time). It is easy to shoot and accurate. I then bought my own and am working on making it my fall-winter-early spring carry gun. It is a bit heavy, has a solid feel to it, and mine seems to have a good trigger.

As with all guns it would be better to try and find one you can borrow to try out. Just because it works for me does not necessarily mean it will work for you.

Mine is just as good a shooter as my old P220.

No, really.

The only real sticking point for some is the short grip. You'll want to hold one to be sure it fits your hand. Other than that, it's a great pistol, and the heavy slide soaks up recoil easily. It's something of a black sheep in Sig's line, but for what I was seeking (a "chopped" 220), it's a great gun.

Like any Sig, mine has gladly eaten whatever ammo I've fed it, including some questionable reloads that my friend's Glock 36 wouldn't. Ask around at Sigforum, and you'll find folks who are pretty devoted to the model.

The P245 is, indeed, SIG's red headed step child. I love mine, but like others have said the grip is a love it or hate it affair. I have small hands and a huge affinity for the SIG P220 so the P245 fits me very well.

They shoot just like a full size 220. I do think they are overpriced and I even think there are better small .45 options out there like the Glock 30 but all in all I like the P245 because I like the manual of arms, SIG quality and accuracy.

Two thumbs up from me but a definite try before you buy.

Chris

I used my SIG P-245 to qualify for my first CHL here in Texas. I shot 249 out of 250. Probably one of the best shooting guns I have ever owned. The only complaint that I have is that the short grip made it very uncomfortable for long shooting sessions for my big hands and I like to shoot my carry guns a lot.....!

I traded it against a SIG P-220ST and never looked back.

I love mine.

I thought the grip was way too short until I held it. I can just get my pinky on the end of it, so I've got a full grip.

For concealment it's great. That short grip is a real benefit for IWB carry.

I too liked the 220 but it was too hard for me to hide in the TN Summer...I have indeed looked at the Glock 30 and 36 but I am not a big fan of Glocks nothing against them I have oened 2 or 3 in my time and they were very dependable but I just never took a likeing to them... I am a very big Sig fan...the ones that I have owned (220,225,228)have suited me to a tee...alas I sold the 220 bbecause of a need to $$$ and well the 225 somebody wanted more than I did.

You won't go wrong with a SIG. Just make sure that particular model fits your hand properly.

Is it hard to find leather for the 245...will the 228 holsters work?

I think the 245 is a great CCW gun. I have a 229 and I hardly ever carry it anymore since I got the 245. Like the others have said, if you have smaller hands the grip will fit you okay. I use my 229 Sidearmor holster for carrying it. I had to slightly adjust the screw but it was a very close fit and works well.

Yes the 228 holsters will work fine with the 245. At least I know the Galco IWB's will. Have used the 245 in a couple of 228 holsters also. Hgh Noon makes holsters for the 245.
