My older brother brought his 229 over to shoot. He had a couple of blocked 10 round mags and a full capacity mag. The full cap mag was marked 229-1 and will not go into the gun. It gets wider about a quarter of the way down. Turns out it is for a slightly different Sig. e2? enhanced? Don't remember exactly.

Are there full capacity mags that will work in his gun? If not, can this gun be adapted to? Different grips perhaps?

There were two different mag opening sizes for 9mm P229s IIRC. After a while they standardized on the .40 magwell/gripframe for both calibers. Early 9mm mags will usually function in the larger frames but they rattle. Can’t go the other way.

Any 9mm magazine not marked "-1" will work in his older 9mm 229...which will also use any magazine marketed for the 228

The original 229 chambered for 9mm was pretty much a 228 with a milled stainless slide (It should have actually been a 228-1). The .40 and 357SIG models of the 229 always used a different frame.

The 229 e2 (e squared) introduced the 9mm 229-1 frame to 229 line. It used the same sized frame as the .40 and 357SIG models

I have a P229R with the E2 grip and the spare mags that came with the gun are all marked P229-1. Last year my brother gave me a factory mag that he had leftover from a P228 that he had sold and I was kind of surprised that it fit perfectly in my SIG.

The older 9mm 229 mags and the 228 mags have always been able to fit into the .40/357Sig frames (229-1)...it is just a loose fit
