I purchased a Sig P226R with the DAK trigger less than a year ago. It was brand new when I bought it and I have put less than 750 rounds through it. I paid about $750 for it.

I dropped by a local gun shop today and was looking at some of their new guns. I found one I liked and the price seemed reasonable. I asked if they would consider taking the Sig in trade and they said "absolutely." Without inspecting my firearm they said that a P226 would only bring about $300-350 in trade.

I was a bit shocked, thinking they would offer closer to $500. It is in excellent condition with very little signs of wear. It comes with four hi-cap mags and is still in the original box with the owner's manual.

I assume I could get more cash for it in a private sale than a trade, but what is a reasonable price for a private sale? How about a trade in?

Any responses are appreciated.

It really depends on the market in your area. I bought a nearly new P226 for around $420 here in Utah. From a gun shop.

I'd try to sell it privately, if for some reason I didn't want it. I'd be nuts if I didn't want it, though. :D

Hey, they gotta stay in business!

They have to sell your used gun at 25% less than a new one. Um, that is close to your $500. So they need to make 25% profit, that means $125 profit from their sale. So they can only offer $375 max.

Sounds like a fair offer to me. Sell it yourself, you get that profit. But you still end up losing on the deal.

Better to keep it. :)

Check out the price of the Sigs over on www.policeguns.com

I believe they are around $680 or so. I would say sell it in a private sale. Does your gun have night sights? If so are they factory? What about magazines? How many.

On the link I posted the guns come with night sights and 3 hi-cap mags standard.
