I realize this is a question probably specific to your gun, but I am looking for a good factory JHP round for a Sig P229. I have shot Speer Gold dot 124g JHP and I would say its mediocre... not as accurate as Sellier and Bellot 115g FMJ or Winchester 124g FMJ NATO ammo.

I am having no functional issues, just looking for a more accurate load, and wanted to see what other Sig 229s liked.

I like the Hornady American Gunner (aka "Custom") 124 grain +P JHP in my Sig M11-A1 and my P228.

Wouldn't this be a trial and error process? Hornady Critical Duty +P go the same place 115 fmj goes out of my Sig 239.

Shoot what you practice with -

With my 8yr old Sig P229R 9mm with CTC laser grips I've been shooting nothing but Winchester Ranger SXT 147gr sub-sonic JHP's. And whether 12ft out to 63ft, where the red dot is, so goes the bullet.

Not a big deal, but less boom bite noise wise being sub-sonic and with the heavier weight, the inertia will take the bullet thru side wall, door, car glass, thick clothing, etc.

And offers the same recoil of either 115gr or 124gr FMJ range practice ammo so no surprises, recoil wise, if I had to use the 147gr sub-sonic JHP's.

Not to mention it is the cleanest ammo I've ever shot.

I own three P-229s, a USA-production two-tone short extractor model, an M11-A1 and a Legion (recent addition to the family). Previous to these, I've owned several P-228s, both West German and German production models.

I have found the Speer Gold Dot 124-grain and 124-grain +P to be very accurate in ALL my 229s. The Hornady Critical Defense Flex-tip 135-grain +Ps are accurate, as are the Remington Golden Saber in 115-grain +P and 147 grain, the Remington Black Belt same loads, and the Federal Hi-Shock 115-grain JHP, Federal HST 124 grain and 124 grain +P.

I've even gotten quite good accuracy out of the Federal Aluminum 115 grain FMJs and the Perfecta 115 grain FMJs.

It would have to be a REALLY, REALLY inaccurate combination for me to actually start worrying about it from a carry perspective. Accuracy would likely be at the very bottom of my list of concerns after terminal ballistics, availability, price, etc

I only use Speer for SD ammo so i dont have any compatisons. It is accurate in my 229.
