As you can tell, I hardly ever post but am constantly reading the boards! LOL!

It is time for a new self defense gun for the house and have narrowed it down to these two. My question to you is the choice between the Sig P250 Compact and the Walther PPQ which one would you choose? If you have shot both, which one has less of a recoil? Thanks in advance for all of your help.

I have both, both are great shooters, but if I could only have one, it would definitely be the PPQ hands down....PPQ has a litle more flip, but ergos, accuracy, and build are better with the PPQ.

Both are reliable and accurate. Pick the one you shoot best. I'd take the P250, simply because the PPQ doesn't do anything for me as far as feel. I'm accurate with both, but the P250 just feels better in my hands. I would think the Sig would have less recoil, due to it being a slightly heavier gun (if I remember right).

If you can't get them both, at least try them both and see which one best fits your hand and eye. I will say that the new Walther PPQ trigger is as good as it gets in a handgun these days.

The only things I can say about the PPQ is that I couldn't get used to the mag release. Everything else was up to par. However I don't own one so feel is as far as it goes. I own 2 P250s and have to say if you're into double actions, go with it. Best double action semi I've had considering the price. I have quite a few rounds through one of mine and I've found that as long as I stay away from laquer coated steel all goes well as far as feed/eject.

I own a P250SC. The trigger pull is long, so long a lot of people don't like it. It is not so long that I mind it and it is rather easy, that is light enough that I don't mind the travel distance.
I have no experience with the Walther, but thought I would share what I know about the 250

Since you are saying that this is a SD gun for the house, then I'm going to say the P250. The PPQ is a better gun than the P250, but I do think the P250 is a better SD gun for the house.

Why?

The nature of the trigger on both guns. The P250 is well designed for SD use in the home. It has no external safeties, but does have a longer than normal trigger pull that acts as a safety. Meaning, you have to be very deliberate to make it go bang. The PPQ has (according to reports - I've never shot one) a very light trigger. Some would probably call it a hair trigger. I don't think that kind of trigger is well suited for home defense use in the hands of most people. If you think a prowler is in the house, then it's better to have the more deliberate trigger. And, the P250 has the best DAO trigger on the market, in my book.

I wouldn't really call the PPQ any better than the P250. They're made to do different things.

Not a fair comparison at all. For the price, the PPQ is a vastly better option.

For $150 more, the PPQ is still the better option.

That said, the Walther P99AS (with "Anti-Stress" DA/SA trigger) is an even better option for home defense.

-Better trigger (smoother, crisper, vastly shorter reset).
-Better ergonomics.
-Better accuracy for most folks (due to better trigger & better ergonomics).
-Better fit & finish (for some reason Walther polymer looks and feels much better than that of SIG, Glock, S&W, Ruger, etc.). Zero tool marks on any of the steel parts. Not so for the P250.
-A proven design. The same gun has been around for years in Europe (as P99Q or P99 RAD). The P99 itself is one of the most reliable polymer pistols ever made.
-German proof marks! :)

The PPQ does not by any means have a "hair trigger". Better trigger does not equal hair trigger.

The PPQ will take the cake over the P250 any day and every day.

PPQ!

I bought one to compliment my PPS and I’m now ordering a second. For a polymer pistol it does have a superb trigger, and the ergonomics are very good. Overall it’s a great package.

The PPQ trigger is by no means a “hair” trigger, not even close. The pull is about 5lbs and that’s after about a .4” travel. For comparison, my Baers have 3lb pulls with less than a .1” take up. An awful lot of 1911s that are carried and used for HD have lighter triggers than the PPQ.

Holster makers are coming on line so there are quite a few options available now. The only issue I see with the PPQ is the magazine cost, but that’s one of those problems you can throw money at. The Magnum Research mags are identical to the PPQ and run about $32.

Will the PPQ not fit most P99 holsters (I assume the only issue would be the slightly different trigger guard shape)?

Fishbed, my understanding is “no” for the most part, the trigger guard and slide are different on the PPQ.

But, I guess it may “depend” on what holster material you’re using. I just received a Blade Tech SRB for my PPQ, (great holster BTW), but before it arrived I used a High Noon SIG 220ST holster which being leather was a little forgiving.
