I was out hunting for a damn CM9 but came across the new Sig Sauer P290 9mm sub-compact. Which after settling in with the little gun awhile I liked better than the Kahr. I don't know if this is a promo package from Sig but for $599 I got the P290 with Sig-Lite night sights, a paddle holster the Sig proprietary P290 laser. I do want the extended mag as soon as I can get one.
I'll post up a range report as soon as I can run it.
For now I'll say the P290 feels very solid and well built. At 20oz it has heft for a gun its size but still a breeze to carry. Side by side with the Kahr PM9 the 290 is actually smaller. Alright time to go shoot :D

This P290 its a great shooter :)
I was hard on it for 200+ initial rounds, a mix of Federal Champion, Remy UMC, Brown Bear and my 9mm carry ammo; Federal LE Barns XPB 115g +P
Operation was flawless through all of it. Shot with out cleaning, Two handed, weak handed, even upside down. Accuracy was as expected, once I got use to the gun all rounds were kept in a 4" shoot & see out to 20yards(standing), tightening at closer distance. POI was low to hold at these ranges. The P290 is also comfortable to shoot. The stubby grip is hardly noticeable once its settled in hand. Recoil and flip are very tame, rounds will fly as a fast as you can squeeze. I wore it appendix ItW and the P290 is a sweet carry, I know it'll be even better once I find a proper holster.
I have three small complaints. First the mag "hitches" a little bit on insertion. Second, the feed lips are sharp(glad I had my Lupa with me). Third, the slide lock is like a spear point, I smoothed that out with 200 then 1500 grit sp when I had it apart.

SIG isn't exactly undertaking a massive marketing campaign for it for some reason.
They have a damn good true sub-compact this time and priced decently, too.....Its not massive but to help help Sig out ;) ...If you're in the market for one of the new subbie 9mm's and are undecided don't skim over the P290, I'm very happy I stumbled on to one.

How is the trigger? What is the weight of the pull? What is the length like. More like the standard P series DA stroke or more like the P250?

Is true pocket carry, I.e. Jeans an option?
Its in my jeans shorts pocket right now, just drops right in, any smaller and you're getting a mouse gun...Be aware the P290 weights in at ~20oz its not super light. The P290 is smaller the my 15oz LCR which makes it easier to pocket carry.

Sorry I've shot a P250 before....Sig lists the trigger pull @ 9.0 lb Average DAO.
Its smooth and long, there is some hitching on reset but the trigger works well and feels good too me. No problem lighting off a full mag as fast as possible.

I have heard a lot of chatter on the internet about the P290 having a lot of light primer strikes and the hammer not falling all the way down. Has anyone else heard about this?

I read the same.
I think, like the P238, it had some early growing pains. I read they stopped production and sorted out the issues.

Don't know, but it was on the internet so it must have been true.

Looking forward to trying one out and enjoying the report.

Seems that the P238 was sorted out nicely over the last year.
