I found a 290rs here brand new for $300. Feels good in the hand and I like the revolver like trigger idea for pocket carry.

For the few out there that have this unpopular Sig or have shot it, what are your thoughts?

I found one to shoot and it was fine. It's a little too thick for my taste. Also, the problem is not so much the trigger travel, but moreso the trigger reach. It is much easier to deal with a long travel on revolers because the trigger is far away from the grip. I went with Glock 42 instead. In 9mm the competitors would be Shield and PPS. $300 seems like a very good price. I like that P290 has factory extended magazines.

Yes, looking at the 9mm. The shield is currently my off duty carry piece. Was liking the idea of the P290 for pocket carry. The Shield works in my pockets but I'm not crazy about having a striker fired gun in a pocket holster.

Good advice on the trigger reach. I will have to check that out in more detail before making a decision.

Shot my friend's and loved it. His has the slightly wider fish scale grips and, for a pocket 9, I thought it was a very manageable pistol. If I didn't already have an LC9 I'd buy the Sig. If I found a new one for $300, I'd buy it anyway.

I picked one up as it was a deal as well. It's a little on the heavy side for a pocket pistol and it is actually thinner than the Glock 43; however, it does seem a little blocky. Yes, the trigger pull is pretty long, but smooth...I only wish it had a shorter reset, but it's no different than a DA revolver. It's a well made, stout little 9mm with excellent sights and mine has bee 100% reliable. One thing Sig does well is make accurate guns and this sub-compact offers excellent accuracy (the sights really help). Magazines are expensive for small, single stacks, but so are all of Sig's mags! For that price, it wouldn't hurt to try it out. It's not my most carried handgun, but I like it as a "beater" to throw in the coat pocket or mini OWB holster when in a hurry.

I paid $300 for mine. It was a great deal.

I think it is a great value. As others have said it is a little too wide and a little too heavy but it reliable and accurate....very accurate. I also like the trigger pull. It is long and smooth but not heavy. Just what I want in a pocket pistol. An accidental discharge is less likely in the heat of a confrontation with the longer trigger pull.

I like mine a great deal. It is easy to shoot. Accurate. I prefer a hammer fired true dao for this type of handgun and few others fit the bill. It is very concealable. A highly underrated pistol in my view.

I have the original 290 and will never get rid of it. I have had a lot of small 9mm and this is the only one that has been 100% reliable. Trigger is not great or even good but I will trade that for the reliability any day of the week. If I found one locally for $300 I would by two.

I do not pocket carry mine, but my LCP is the only thing that I feel comfortable with pocket carry. I carry mine quite a bit in a Versa Carry.

I had one, loved the size, could actually pocket carry it. I am 6'2" tall and could never get use to the very short trigger reach. So I sold it. A year ago I came across another, and remembering how much that I liked the size and thinking that I might have had a bad one, I bought it. Again I loved to carry it, but paid more attention to the trigger and realized it was just too short. During a normal draw and shoot, my trigger finger actually bottomed out on the other fingers gripping the grip, thus preventing me from completing the trigger pull. So sold the second one too. My fingers aren't overly long, just normal for my 6'2" frame. The Quality is defiantly there, they just need to re-engineer the trigger.

During a normal draw and shoot, my trigger finger actually bottomed out on the other fingers gripping the grip, thus preventing me from completing the trigger pull.

That running out of finger happened to me on P290 too. I then used the support hand's index finger to help make the shot. Notably, SIG also make P250 with a similarly arranged trigger where I can generally manage. Perhaps the double-stack grip helps.

P.S. I should note that I have no trouble shooting Kahrs. They permit slipping one's finger. Their trigger is wide and its surface is a polished metal. Although perhaps the full travel is less than on P290 too.

By trigger reach, do you guys mean you are getting too much finger into the trigger with a normal grip? Is it like a j-frame in that regard?

Shooting my j-frame, I use the first knuckle centered on the trigger. Not good form, but it has worked well for me. Is the 290 like that, or different?

I also wear xl gloves.

I wear xxl work gloves and have never had any problem like what is mentioned above. It sounds like way to much finger on the trigger?

I second what "Gary A" already said. I have the P290RS ORB model and love it. Though, my favorite pocket 9mm pistol I own is my Ruger LC9 (original hammer version), but I like my P290RS a little over my Kahr PM9 and even more over my S&W Shield 9.

I one have one of the first models and it has become my number 1 hot weather carry gun. I use a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. I have shot high scores in qualification with it. It has never jammed . For $300.00 I would buy another

I bought a 290rs as I was retiring from my agency in 2012. Yes it is a little thick and yes it is a little heavy, but for an old revolver guy, I really like it. It has been my everyday carry piece since I bought it. It has never failed in the 4 years I have had it and the finish wears well. I really can't think of another gun I would want for my self defense piece. In the really hot summer when wearing shorts, I do carry a bodyguard 380, but I will keep the sig

I have one that's been my daily carry about 80% of the time. I sometimes switch to a Kahr CM-9 or a Glock 43 but the Sig is my favorite. It's a little bit heavy but I love the solid feel and the sights as well. I have no trouble knocking soda cans around in the back yard at 20 yds. I carry IWB in a Desantis gunhide and it works well for me. I will say that at first I wasn't crazy about the factory grip panels but after trying some of the factory G10 offerings, i have gone back to the originals. The G10 grips looked and felt nice but were kind of like wearing a cheese grater on your side. I notice that Sig is now offering only one model of this pistol now. Used to be six or seven different variants. Hope it doesn't get discontinued.

Picked it up yesterday!

Haven't got it out to the desert yet, done some dry firing to get used to the trigger though. Also been carrying it around the house (empty) in a pocket holster. Fits easily and is comfortable.

This little pistol reminds me a lot of the Kahr PM40 I owned years ago. About the same size, just heavier and more solid feeling. Hopefully it will run a lot better too.

Only came with one six round mag, but I did purchase an 8 rounder. Turns out it fits very well in an IWB hybrid and OWB kydex that I already had for my Shield. As funds are tight, this is a HUGE plus!

I will post a range report once the mud clears. I anticipate shooting it OK since I do alright with a j-frame.
