So I'm considering getting a Sig .22 pistol but from what I've read the Mosquito isn't the best pistol, at least not in it's early years. I've been leaning towards the Sig P220 Classic .22 because I can convert it to 9mm later for a few hundred dollars, it's made by Sig and it looks more like a real gun. So does anyone have any experience with these guns? (And I don't want a Ruger for anyone that's going to mention that)

I believe the P220 classic .22 can only be converted to .45 ACP, not 9mm. No direct experience, but I held one at my LGS, and it felt good. I would say that it's good for folks with larger hands.

The P220 Classic .22 only has the option of an conversion upper to convert it to .45ACP

The P226 Classic .22 can be had with your choice of uppers for 9mm, 357SIG or .40

I have the .22lr conversion kit (the same upper that comes mounted on the Classic .22) that I use on my tuned 9mm P226ST. Mine was a bit balky at first, but I just had it fitted when I had the action tuned and it has been flawless since then.

I use it when instructing students to observe trigger management. The great thing about the gun you are considering is that you get the same controls and trigger feel when you change the upper over to CF

Oh okay, well the 45 auto is just as good, can't get high capacity mags here anyways. The p220 classic 22 is the best price I can find on one in Canada as well, so I think I'll go with it. It'll be my first Sig, just started getting into european guns.

A lonely vote for the Mosquito. I like mine, mostly because I got the right combination of ammo and recoil spring and it now works very well.

Okay so the Sig P226 .22 finally arrived. Only problem is when I was trying to disassemble it, it didn't seem to want to come apart. I noticed the three sided key it came with, I was just wondering if there is some sort of internal lock on it - the screw that's on the left side of the frame next to the disassembly lever? Is disassembly different for the .22 than the standard P226? Looks great other than that, also noticed the guide rod angles up a fair amount towards the barrel, is this normal? Thanks.

Did you remove the magazine? If the slide is locked back and you rotated the takedown lever to the 6 o'clock position but the slide won't slide off (forwards) you might still have the magazine inserted ... just a thought. As for the three-sided key ... is that to adjust the rear sight?

Okay it's all good, for some reason the slide just didn't want to come off. I tried taking it down with the magazine in it, then just took the mag out after I rotated the takedown lever and it came apart. But I had been trying it with the magazine out first, guess it was just a little stuck for some reason. I'll post pictures of the gun's accuracy once I get the time but it's already 20 below here so might take a little while haha
