I was a bit frustrated with my P228. Great and reliable pistol but the grip is a bit too ‘fat’ for my small hands.

So I decided to install the e2 grips and while I was tinkering with it I also added the ‘Short Reset Trigger’-kit.

The SRT-kit made an ‘OK’ reset really good, but the biggest change was definitely the e2-grip.

It feels like the pistol ‘flows’ into my hand and the texture gives a perfect grip. The reduction in trigger reach may seem minor, but it makes a lot of difference to me.

The short main spring (I think 21 lbs) that replaced the original long spring made the DA trigger noticeably heavier than before. So I tried replacing it with a 17 lbs spring that made the DA trigger extremely light but caused an occasional misfire because of a too light hammer strike. A 19 lbs spring gave the same good DA trigger and reliability as before.

I always liked my P228, but now I just love it !

I had very much the same experience with my brother's P228 which he let me use it for a couple of years while he was away on business. Loved just about everything with the gun; super reliable (I used it primarily to test out a lot of my hand loads), decent trigger, and great sights. But the problem with my small hands was that the grip felt a little too wide and it was a bit of a reach to the trigger in the DA mode.

Some years later I was looking for a new home defense gun and went to my local gun shop to see what they had to offer. I checked out a couple of 9mm.s that they had and then my buddy who worked there showed me a SIG P229R E2 that they had just taken in. It was LNIB (I didn't think it had been used outside of test firing), had a rail which I wanted for a light, had the SRT, and had the E2 grips. The grips felt fantastic with great ergonomics and just enough texture to them to give my hand a solid grip on them. The trigger was a big improvement over the one on the P228 and it had factory installed night sights. The icing on the cake was that it came with 2 extra magazines! Probably one of the fastest buys I ever made!

Funny, I've recently been contemplating that conversion of the grips on one of my 228s for no real reason other than "just because" (the first generation SIG grips fit my hands perfectly enough) and to do some comparison shooting between the old style and new.

The old-style SIGs have always been about the most ergonomic pistols of any for me, but since I seem to shoot the P-227 and my new Legion P-229, both with E2 grips, so well, I want to see if I can detect any significant difference in my shooting with one of my old SIGs.

And yes, the SRT makes already excellent triggers even better ...
