Ala-freaggin'-Bama!
Well I traded into one of these on a whim last week and found it to seem pretty likable...ordered a stainless guide-rod the first day I had it (looks good and seems nicer than what it came with) Other than that it was stock with night sights (nice) for about what stock GLOCK costs without the night sights. I've never owned a Sig....shot a few and liked em...but this is the first I've owned. I don't care for the company or it's service much (like pulling teeth getting parts or support if you're not a Sig dealer...and we are not) allow me to illustrate a common example.

After a long time on hold (20 minutes) I did get a person on the phone to inquire if I could get them to send me the larger grip my gun didn't ship with. I have very large hands and would like to try it. They informed me they don't include that grip anymore (silence) I ask "well....is it available?"..."well....I could sell you one for like $38" says she...."$38 for a plastic and rubber grip?" responds I...."well, I'll tell you what....I won't add shipping onto that" says she....I thanked her for her help and hung up. The part probably costs them $4...$20-25 I'd have just ordered it...but that's just silly!

I nearly traded it back in right there...but after dry firing it a million times the DA and SA trigger was just getting nice and smooth...and I wanted to at least shoot the thing! So 250 rounds later...well, I like it! It shoots very well. No failures of any kind. And it is seemingly very accurate...I haven't printed much paper with it enough to call it but shooting and plinking in general it shot solid...in fact it was so hot I dumped the first 100 rounds through it under a fan and shade at the 50 yard benches...and aside from function found I was hitting randomly chosen debris or right close to it very well for 50 freaggin yards with a gun I've never shot before! It feels good...in fact I shot it alongside a G19 and it clearly shot better and felt better under recoil (the sig is about 5 ounces heavier than a Glock with a steel guide-rod also installed) The sig feels a lot like my old XD9 but with a way different grip and trigger.

Downrange at 7 yards and sweating my butt off I was poping rapidfire tight fist sized groups....about 3-4 inches low. Even slowfire it was printing well but low....I was hot and out of ammo....I decided to return at sundown.

I plinked another 100 rounds through it mostly shooting bottles and debris off the embankment...it was hard to miss after adjusting my grip some...I found a grip that allowed me to produce a tight 2.5" offhand group a couple times...but was still not really feeling at home yet. Plinking and quickly aquiring bottles ect at 7-15 yards one and two handed it was clear the gun is highly shootable...it's DA/SA trigger is just taking some getting used to for me (GLOCK/1911 guy) (I think it was ME shooting low...grip/trigger issues)

Upon further dry firing I think I finally found the grip I need to use with this gun...I'll go back after work and dump another 100-150 through the 2022 and report back with an actual target or two in the morning. It's taken a little time to get used to this gun...and may take some more...but I have the feeling it's going to prove worth the effort. I don't care much for the company...but it seems like a lot of gun for the money. I may just keep it (dang third mag cost me $35 wholesale!!) and just beat the crap out of it as my EDC and 9mm plinker for the next year or so (or till I can break it-LOL) If it holds up it may just be a top value in the afordable 9mm category. If a guy didn't like striker fired guns but wanted something akin to an XD/G19/23 it apears so far you could deffinately do worse. Time will tell. (BTW it fits my XD's Bianchi 82 Carrylock like it was (almost) made for it!) But so far...so good!

PS- sorry that should be "Sig Pro" in Title...coffee still sinkin in! ;)

awsome! Thank you! Just ordered it...even with $9.95 priority service shipping it was only $25.95...now that is about what it's worth! You guys are always so helpful!

:neener:(though I don't know if my wife agrees-LOL)

I shot a friends SP2022 a couple months ago and was VERY impressed. For some reason, I shot it better than I do my P229. I've seen them for sale for ~$430. Considering how well the gun shoots, the fact that it comes factory with night sights, and it's a Sig, I'd say it's probably one of the best bargains to be had out there right now!

The SigPro is the best kept secret of the Sig line. The R&D cost were long ago covered through a French contract and there haven't been any "designer models" introduced. They have always shown excellent accuracy and very good trigger right out of the box.

I also highly recommend Top Gun Supply for parts. Tom and Michelle are knowledgeable and are really serious about taking care of their customers

I had one years ago. Very accurate (it turned me on to the Sig 232 that I used as my "everywhere" gun until recently) and ran like a raped ape, but fat with a high bore axis. I traded it off plus $50 for a LEO Glock 19 and Night Sights and I still have the Glock. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a no nonsense TDA auto.

Ya did good Jon Boy.

Regards,
Lucky

Sorry, to be clear, I had the older 2009 model.

There have been a few recent changes to the Sig Pro 2022.

They now have an external extractor.
The standard model the one you see for $400 comes with bar dot sights not night sites. Night sight models cost $479.
They come with a new Sig Sauer marked small grip with an internal lanyard loop.
The position of the take down notch has been moved.
They are all now Nitron finished instead of Iffalon.

The reports are that they are still solid guns and are an incredible value at a sub $400 price point.

I'm deciding between one of these and a Stoeger Cougar right now! So far the edge goes to the Stoeger simply because I got experience with it but I hope to find one of these Sig's at a gun shop soon so I can atleast get the feel of it before I forget about it. The price on such a pistol is hard to beat.

I keep thinking "it's just so different from everything else I shoot...I need to trade it off" Then I pick it up and feel it and think..."yeah right! I aint letting this baby go" It's a dang nice pistol for the $$ I've handled the couger/generic beretta thing...the locking design is very interesting but the slide is too small and I seem to remember disliking the trigger. Nobody I've transfered a Beretta in for has ended up liking them in the long run...that said...ehhh they are in the same rough size and price range. I'd deffinately check out the 2022 before I bought...especially if you can find it for sub-$500 with night sights and the all german w/ iafflon finish like mine! without the night sights at that price it might be a tougher call.

Not as good a deal as they used to be...

but still not bad!

I have a P229R (357 SIG) and since the price was right, and it seemed to mimic my P229R in operation/trigger pull, etc, I got one (9mm). Later on, I got another to replace my old 12+ yr old Sigma bed gun-night sights on the Sigma are 'bout gone and my TLR-2s won't fit the Sigma's proprietary rail.

Anywho-the first one I bought came with both grips and 3 magazines-the second one (a few years later) had only 1 grip and 2 magazines.

I agree they are great for someone who wants a glock or xd like weapon and does not like striker fire..(i would be one of those if i wanted a lighter version of my p229).

Yes customer service sucks. Yes they can still be a bit pricey. But all guns need maintanence and any gun can jam...i chose the sigs/berettas/1911s because they shoot better.

As you have already mentioned.

And i know tons of guys on here jump in and talk about their trophies they have one with their glocks and i dont doubt it. I also dont doubt that if those same guys were using a 1911, Beretta, sig, CZ75/85 etc...they would shoot EVEN better.

Just my .2 cents though.

I would DEF get a P2022 if i wanted glock type weapon, thicker or not, harder to find parts or not, the SA mode gives you better accuracy and thats pretty much my view point. The first DA is something i veiw little more than a "saftey" for the wapon, without having to remember to disengage one.

I got the chance to shoot one of those a couple weeks ago at the range. I really liked it a lot.

Dam guns are like jelly beans, everytime you try a new flavor, you got to have one.

I bought one a few weeks ago. I like it better than most pistols I've ever shot. I like it better than a friend's 1200 dollar kimber, and I like it better than glocks or smiths. It's all in all a superb feel, and it's great handling and great for rapid fire. People who have held it remark about how good it just feels in your hand. I'd heard tell of how awesome Sigs are but was thought to myself, "eh, how good can it really be." It's that good.

I ran some IDPA drills individually and in team events 2 weekends ago with it. Did very well, despite my lack of experience with it (I previously owned a TT33.) It did well on the move, doable DA trigger, and I even managed to hit stuff while running.

Does it have a different field striping procedure than the rest of the P-series Sigs?

I seem to recall people whining about the take down procedure. I don't know, I'm just asking. The pistol does seem like a good value.

The only problem with take down is when the gun is new the take down pin is very tight. After you break it down a few times and shoot it a little it loosens up and then is just as easy to break down as any other handgun.

It's mighty pretty in stainless...I seem to have read mine is stainless under this iaflon finish....yet it's not marked "stainless" as most of the newer P-series sigs are these days...anyone know for sure all the 2022's are stainless?

FYI, Academy Sports has these Sig P2022s on sale for $399 right now. I've got the 2340, which was not such a hot seller when it came out a few years ago. Nowadays, everyone seems to be buying these 2022s, which is a similar gun but in 9mm.

I borrowed a 2340 a few years ago when I gave my (soon to be) wife my blued XD9 4" after she'd proved to be highly competent and comfortable with it...I had it in mind to order me another XD9 in stainless (which I did -also a great gun) Anyway for our holiday trip none where available yet (post election gun buying madness) so I borrowed the older sig pro from the shop over the holidays....it was a dang fine pistol...I started to just keep it at the end of the trip instead of ordering the XD...but I wanted us to share mags ect (she liked the idea to) so I ordered the XD instead when they suddenly where available for two hours that monday morning!

I guess this 2022 in 9mm is just scratching that itch from a few years back...it is still available in .40 and .357 sig BTW...though I don't know if it's in stock anywhere...they do exist...so I'm sure somebody has em for sale.

The one problem with this damned 2022 is it's going to end up making me buy a damn 229 two tone and a P220! And I'm gonna end up carrying this one anyway after all that! Maybe I'll just buy another 2022 in .40 and get a .357 sig barrel for fun-LOL !! ehhh I kinda want a 220 anyway.

The 2022 9mm 600 rounds later...

For whatever reason it took this big handed glock/xd/1911 guy a while to truly bond or "gel" with this gun. It felt great shooting and I like it...but it took some adjusting of my grip and trigger familiarization a plenty (plus the gun itself has smoothed out nicely with WELL over 1000 or two dry fires and 100's of presentations later. Now oddly -it feels like an extention of my body...something I wasn't sure was going to happen right off. What's more, I shoot this dang thing well....very well for me...insanely well for me with a DA/SA gun...which I usually don't do very well with (that's why I shoot mostly GLOCK and 1911's).

This gun has quite simply astounded me with value and accuracy. I've done a LOT of informal plinking with it....comprising most of the 600 rounds it's seen...about 200 rounds have been on paper. What you see here is the last 3 mags of the first 600 rounds. I found my grip and finally feel at home on this trigger...I still pull the DA shots a little low but now it's really "a little low" where it was at best bottom edge of the paper!-LOL In fact pulling it from the holster at 21ft. with the sun in my face on a HOT 100 degree day it easily put 15 rounds in a fist sized group (8 ring or better)...I'm sure it can do better than that target but that was me comparing it to my other guns...pull and controlled rapid fire...and it was at least as good as any of my GLOCKS. Which surprised me because I was dying in the heat. (yellow dot is 1")

Then I placed two targets for "chest and head" 2+1 drills...these I did at controlled speed...probably halfspeed would be a fair description of cadence...not rushed at all but as quick as I was comfortable with with this gun right now. I wanted to evaluate the gun more than me....but I was feeling confident enough with it to do this. I was amazed...for me....this is probably the best I've EVER shot a DA/SA pistol! (or non 1911) I am in LOVE with this "bargain Sig" No failures or stopages of any kind.
sigtarg3.jpg chest! you can see it's DA and SA pulls...but this is the closest I;ve EVER gotten my DA shots to my SA shots...I LOVE this GUN!
sigtarg2.jpg "head" shots....I strung em vertically pretty bad as I guess I rushed em a bit maybe compared to the chest where I was more concetrated...but they where on centerline and on target...so I'm happy! I "think" there where two hits off the bottom on the head (badly rushed or trigger broke earlier than planned) and the first DA on the bottom (chest) I actually did still send sailing low off the paper but it improved a LOT after that. And that's not the gun's fault...it's me. But that has to bet the best DA/SA target I've ever shot overall...and I think the gun really helped that happen! (as did 600 rounds with it!)

Bottom line....this "bargain Sig" puts out...BIG TIME! I'm not usually someone who shoots this type of gun well...and yet it now feels like a part of me...in just 600 rounds it has changed my opinion on the DA/SA trigger...at least in this case! Some overcast cooler day I'll shoot it for accuracy at 15 and 25 yards and add em...it's just misserable out there this week (100+ and muggy...come on FALL!)

Holster for 2022?

Since we are already talkng about the 2022, does anyone have any feedback on holsters?

It seems that holster selection is a bit limited. In fact, these are the only two that I could quickly find online.

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=548490

http://www.sigsauer.com/SigStore/ShowProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=101&productid=357

Either one will work for me, as they both have positive retention, but I would welcome any feedback that anyone can offer.

Also, will the 2009 holsters fit the 2022s?
