I bought a new Sig SP2022 a few months back and it is having some trouble feeding the first round of a magazine. I can always get it to feed properly if I pull the slide back and lock it, then drop it using the slide stop. However, if I slingshot it or pull it back from it's starting position it always jams up a little before the round is fully chambered. I've seen a whole lot of brass on the feed ramp from the rounds getting stuck halfway up it.

I'm wondering if I need to get a stronger recoil spring to correct this or if it sounds like a problem with the magazine. I've noticed that after I chamber the first round if I pop the magazine out then the next round isn't flush with the back of the mag, it appears to be sitting forward about halfway. Has anyone seen this or heard about it? Should I get a new magazine, or recoil spring? Or is this even related to those two/correctable? I'd rather not send it into Sig, but if they'll take care of it for a reasonable price I'll do it.

Also if my descriptions aren't cutting the mustard I can post pictures. Just say the word if that will help.

Please post picture so we can make a more accurate evaluation.

My first thought is the opposite of your thinking and it reminds me of the Kahr instruction to always chamber rounds (at least through the first 200) using the slide stop.

Does it also do this if you load a full magazine with the slide forward and than rack the slide to chamber a round?

Are you releasing the slide as it reaches it's furthest most point of travel?

I'd suspect that you aren't holding the frame still, or pushing it forward, as you pull the slide back to chamber a round.

Yelovitz,

Sorry to hear this. I own the Sig 2340, which is a forerunner of your pistol. It is also chambered in .40cal.

I have tried to make my pistol jam, stovepipe, not feed and mal-function in every way I can think of. All types and makes of ammo. It simply feeds and fires everything.

Now, (and I am certainly no expert here) I did buy mine as an ex LE pistol. So, obviously it had quite a few rounds run thru previous to my purchase. Perhaps, your's needs some more "breaking-in" time. A few hundred more rounds might smooth it out.

Hope so, and good luck. These are normally very nice and well functioning pistols.

photos up

Ok so I uploaded the photos to my flickr account since I'm not 'down with the technology' and able to resize and upload photos (I know I'm only 25, but I have never been good with tech).

Anyway I uploaded them all into a set called 'Guns' and tried to put details in the photos about what you're looking at. Ignore that first photo with all the rifles, that's out of date anyway (there should be a Sig and a Walther in there too now). Let me know if I need to take more, or try to explain something else in detail.

Also a bit of background, I did buy this Sig new but at this point I've put at LEAST 500+ rounds through it (various grains and bullet types) and am still having this problem. After chambering the first round (whether it has this feed trouble or not) the 2nd round in the mag is usually sitting forward which leads me to believe that the mag is involved in this problem somehow. Anyway, take a look and let me know what you think, and thanks!

EDIT: Sorry a few of them are a bit out of focus, but I think the important stuff still comes across. Again, I can take a few more if need be.

Since you bought it new, I'd call SIG CS have have them send you a shipping tag for them to look at and correct it. That feed ramp isn't looking good...I'm thinking it might be an extractor problem; or the magazine isn't releasing correctly.

The second cartridge moving forward when the top round feeds is pretty normal

I have a habit of thumping a reloaded mag on my hand to seat the cases to the back, and I usually push the top round down with my palm on the nose. Only jams I get are my fault. XDm & Storm.
