Sig's P320 FCU and Module Kits?

A couple months ago I was in the LGS and seen that they had a P320 FCU for sale under the glass counter with the other guns. Then today I seen online module kits with the lower frame, slide, barrel, recoil spring, and magazine. This one was for 40 S&W. The web site didn't list who produced the kit.

Are the module kits common out there? Are they only offered by Sig Sauer only, or are there 3rd parties producing them as well? My understanding is that there are 2 FCU sizes. One for 9mm up to 40 S&W. And the other is for 45 Auto. I would like either the 40 S&W or a 357 SIG.

I have a couple Ruger American pistols, and I like how easy it is to pull out the FCU to deep clean. And they shoot so well. But I don't think the Americans will have a big enough market share to draw in the module kits.

Kits are indeed common. The kits I've seen are SIG branded, but many others make the grip frames and others barrels. Some do custom slides. IIRC, there are 4 P320 sizes, full, carry, compact, subcompact. Not every component is 100% compatible, for example full size magazines in a subcompact grip frame.

I put a SIG X-change kit in my full sized 40 S&W and converted to carry sized 9mm. I can easily swap calibers in the field. Very cool!

Don’t know if it’s still the case but before it was pretty much cheaper to buy a second gun instead of an x change kit, or at least nearly the same price, so they never made much sense to me.

Just the frames are more reasonably priced though, so there’s still some use there. Especially the Wilson Combat made ones, I really like those on my 365 and have heard good things about them on the 320. I also like the x frame made my Sig over the basic, beaver tail, undercut and I think different texture but those feel great in my hand and if I bought a 320 I would absolutely get either the x frame or Wilson.

Really haven’t seen many .45s out there from Sig, and I don’t think they made the x frame or Wilson for those, so that’s something to keep in mind if you think about the .45.

The .45 full size is same as x ten fire control module wise . .365 modules are different from 320 ..40 and 9 mm FCU and lowe modules the same , so would be .357 Sig of you can find a barrel for
.357 Sig in a .40 slide it would work with .40 magazines.

They are very common and widely available. Besides SIG, Wilson Combat offers their take on the grip module. Several companies offer slides and barrels for the 320

You might be surprised. Many folks like the ability to have several different sized pistols without DROSing each one. Another market are folks who like to DIY customize (stipple) the grip modules without a large investment...OEM grip modules can be had for $30. It also makes it easy to carry over the same trigger feel when changing grips and slides...plus you only have to buy one set of upgraded action parts

My personal SIG 320 started life as a 9mm Compact...to which I've fitted the X-frame and WC full sized frames. The FCU now has a Grayguns sear/springs and an Apex Tactical FSS triggerbar. It rides in a tungsten infused FS frame which has been cut down to Carry size and wears a FS (not 5") Pro Cut slide...which came cut for mounting an optic

A lot of P320 parts are available, as byproducts of all the modular swapping that's going on by individual owners and dealers. You can easily build a pistol from these parts, to your exact specifications. Check Gun Broker for FCU's and over-10-round magazines, and Gun Broker and ebay for all other parts.

Building a gun in this way, from parts, is going to cost you more than just buying a complete pistol. But as I said, you can customize it this way.

As a side note, we have a one-handgun-a-month purchase limit here in Virginia. The FCU doesn't count as a "handgun." It should be identified by FFL dealers (transfer agents) as an "other," just like an unassembled AR-15 lower receiver.

I got lucky with my built 320. I had bought the caliber X change kit from sig when it was on sale for less then 300 shipped. few years later, found a chassis at a pawn shop for $125. Can not beat that.

Yes, the kits are common and are on sig website. I only ever seen sig kits. no other maker besides Wilson combat for grips and a few companies for barrels.

There are quite a few very nice offerings in aluminum frames. The ability to tailor a P320 to your very specific taste is a genius move by Sig and does allow you to have multiple guns based off of one FCU, if that sort of thing interests you. I did this with my P365. The FCU is the only original part with the slide trigger shoe, grip module mags and mag extensions all aftermarket.

This year, my 9mm X-change kit came in at $239 shipped, add another $150 for additional magazines...well under the cost of a second firearm. I'd say the market has changed to the good.

I always thought the FCU was a brilliant idea. Unfortunately, the last time I considered buying one (which has been several years, IIRC), the cost of the parts to make a different pistol (slide, barrel, grip frame) was about as much as a new pistol. Sounds like some of that has changed, so maybe I'll look at them again in the future.

Yes used ones can be had at a very reasonable price. Mine was a CPO and has been great. In fact, a quick search show that Eurooptic has new ones for $399.99.

Not so bad, except mag prices.

Then again, they don’t offer me anything the Glock 19 doesn’t do better (for me, and me alone) so I never got around to buying one.

Love my 365s though. FCU is nice for frame swapping there too.

I looked to see if the trigger modules are worthwhile. My research led me to believe that building from a trigger module is not cost efficient. Heck when AIM has used P320s for $350-400 (approximately the same price as a trigger module alone) you could buy one and then buy whatever grip module, barrel, slide, etc. and still have an extra barrel/slide assembly.

Granted, not all trigger modules are the same (most of the available stand-alone trigger modules that I saw were gold-colored flat faced triggers).

It's been a crazy week. Thank you all for your replies.

I just had an email a few days ago from Aims for a P320 compact police trade-in for $349.99. I think it was chambered in 9mm.
Fin, Feather, Fur has a couple different FCUs starting at $350. I believe I will start here, as I already have plenty of 9mm handguns. I see frame, slide, barrel, recoil spring, and magazine kits starting at $350. I have 2 40s that I have 357 SIG barrels for. So I'm more focused on finding a dedicated 357 SIG. Which may take a while.

They are 9mm and most are like new if you check and come with up to 3 mags. The FCU are like new, because in the design they are protected. If you upgrade the FCI you will be replacing springs and other parts so it will be restored better than new. Also the Compac 320 is pretty small and very close to a P365 , almost just like the popular XL365 . It would seem to very handy to have everything you need to put together a pocket gun and still have the parts to add to the FCU to make what ever. After all $350 + mags ect is goodly $ to get the parts you want for a P320 build . Good luck on finding anything but a Sig .357 Sig barrel .

Gordon, thanks! You have given me something to chew on. I will look deeper into it at Aims.
