i have a CPO 229r .40 that i bought in 08. it may as well have been a NIB gun. as near as i can tell, Sig takes agency trade ins and basically rebuilds them from the inside out, new nite sights springs etc. mine had no scratches or anything. its my nightstand gun now very reliable never had a problem. came with a .357 sig barrel as well. NONE of my LGS can get any for a few years now as i'd buy one in a minute.
if you can get one, buy with confidence.

Yep, good stuff. Ours is a 228 'tho.

In addition to spring swaps and whatever else they do, the folks at SIG USA also installed a short reach and short re-set trigger.

As much as I like the BHP, if I were to carry a double wide 9X19, it'd be this 228.

I purchased a couple of these pistols, both had mucho ring marks to the grip frame, and of course had been fired extensively by the LEO's that they'd been issued too. If the price is acceptable, I'd buy them again, they offer good value, however the surplus Glocks that show up frequently are a smarter buy, as they will long outlast these alloy framed Sigs.

Yes, my CPO p229 has been reliable and accurate through several thousand rounds ... and still going strong. When I first got it, you would have thought it was brand new, except for the red box and red band. If you can find a CPO, it is a good way to go for an exceptional firearm at some discount.

Are you sure they were CPO (Red Band) guns. CPO guns are usually refinished. It sounds like you got a couple of LE trade-in SIGs

LE trade-in SIGs are a good deal if you get a chance to hand select yours, as they are a bit lower priced. The last 9mm 226 I looked at was $399. The advantage of a CPO gun is uniform quality and a 1 year warranty

My best CPO SIG buy was a pair of 220STs...note that they have different take generation down levers

I've bought three or four Sig CPOs over the last half-decade or so, and none provided any less satisfying than a new Sig.

My CPO P229 (non-railed, just the way I like them) came with 2 magazines and was 100%. It looked like it had never ever been fired. I think I paid $550.

You are correct, they were trade ins that were sold by Sig as refurbs, they were not refinished, they were purchased from "Bill's Gun Shop" in Mlps MN in 2009. As I recall, they both had red banded Sig logo'd tape about the butt frame of the pistols.

Here's a CPO P226 Navy I bought on Gunbroker a couple months ago - it was in great shape, and cost much less than a new one.

When Sig first brought out the CPOs, there were issues with the "re-finish" wearing off very quickly on these first guns. Since then Sig has fixed it and I have heard nothing but praise for them. Sig CPOs are probably some of the best gun values around, at they were before all of the craziness.

Definitely the way to go with Sigs. Best $530 I ever spent on a firearm. Honestly, you cannot do better than this when it comes to bang for the buck. I won't ever sell mine simply because the $500-$600 it would bring me is not worth the fun I would be giving up. What the heck else am I going to buy that shoots this sweet for $500-$600? Can't think of anything. Like I said, this one is going to be with me until the very end. :)

Gen III or Gen III+ Smith & Wesson for <$400.

I will admit the previously issued P6 pistols some company imported several years ago and sold for about $300 were pretty much unbeatable deal.

Just bought a Sig P229R in .40 from Bud's. My experience is the same as everyone else. It appears new to me. Great value. I am pretty sure the mags are refurbished also. It also appears they put all new springs in the gun and mags. Comes in a red box, that's how you knows its CPO and not a LEO trade in.

It has been a while since I've seen any locally. There used to be a few on tables at gunshows pretty regularly. I've seen old West German made guns sold as Refubs and guns that literally looked exactly like a brand new one with varying degrees of quaity in between. I'd not buy one that I couldn't see in person.

I bought one that looked like a new one 6-7 years ago that has been perfect for me.
