I haven't bought a Silencer in several years, and am trying to decide between using the Silencer Shop or going with the Silencer Central. I've seen a bunch of ads and publicity about Silencer Central lately, most of it focusing on how the have streamlined the process of applying for and receiving approvals from ATF. Has anyone here had experience with these two and if so which do you prefer and why. I'm interested in a Silencerco Osprey 45

My first silencer purchase was with Silencer Central. It was easier than buying a gun at the LGS. Have not used Silencer Shop but from what I have read, both should make silencer purchase easy. Silencer Central setup a FREE Trust for me and gave me 6-month no interest payments for a purchase of two silencers. Right now (today, 29 November 2021, Cyber Monday special) Silencer Central is giving a FREE 22 LR silencer with purchase of any of the four inhouse brand silencers. Yes you still need to pay the $200 for each tax stamp. Buy more than one inhouse brand silencers and get a free 22 LR silencer with each. (I believe it is while supplies last.)

With Silencer Shop you can choose from any number of "Powered By Dealers" in your state. Each of those dealers is free to adjust his pricing shown on the Silencer Shop website.
If the dealer you choose has a fingerprint kiosk, you go there once to scan your fingerprints.

The Silencer Central claim of "streamlining" the approval process is pure 100% bunk. Every Form 4 follows the exact same process, doesn't matter if its a handwritten Form 4 from your LGS or a printed one from Silencer Shop or Silencer Central.

Silencer Central loves to crow about the $$$$ they spent allowing them to ship a silencer direct to the buyers door. Oddly, Silencer Shop was doing that ten years ago. ANY FFL can do the same as Silencer Central by following the ATF procedure for "non over the counter sales". It ain't new, it ain't faster, it ain't innovative and adds as much as 3-4 weeks to the time a buyer waits to take possession of their silencer. It IS useful if you live in the middle of Alaska.

You have to submit fingerprints and photos when you buy a gun at your LGS? No, you don't.;)

From what I've seen of the Silencer Central line of silencers that isn't a good deal.:D

There are a lot of Silencer Shop deals right now. I belive SilencerCo and Griffin are both offering a "free" .22 can with certain purchases. SilencerCo also offers a 9mm can with purchases over a certain amount. Free tax stamps on some cans right now. Silencer Shop is the way to go

Which does what for the OP?
Only Texas residents can acquire a silencer from an FFL in Texas.
While he can buy from Capitol Armory, it would require transfer to a dealer in the OP's state of residence.....incurring additional $$ as a transfer.

It gives the OP another option from one of the largest silencer dealers in the nation. They aren’t one of the largest by just selling in Texas.

He can compare product pricing, services, and customer service as well. He can pick up the phone and talk with them and the others to see how they treat him and if he feel good about dealing with them.

Buying via Silencer Shop allows the OP to compare prices among dozens (if not hundreds of dealers) in his own state with no added transfer fees.
Pricing? In ten years have I yet to be beaten on pricing by Capitol.....they ain't the best price by a long shot.
Services? Like what? If you are simply buying from Capitol (or any other online retailer) they aren't providing any service other than selling the product and shipping to an FFL/SOT in your state. That means a shipping fee and transfer fee.
Customer service? Explain how that works when Capitol will have absolutely nothing to do with that silencer once they ship to the OP's FFL/SOT.

The FFL/SOT that prepares your Form 4 is far more important than the distributor or retailer that you give your credit card# to.

Don't misunderstand me. I think the guys at Capitol Armory are great. Before i started selling and transferring NFA i referred customers to them. But for someone out of state it makes for a more expensive purchase.

I bought over the weekend an Omega 36M through Silencer Shop as part of SilencerCo’s buy one/get one free. Submitted documents on their website today for a free Octane 45. it’s my first time buying a suppressor or NFA item of any kind, and it was easier than I expected. Now I wait . . .

I purchased my suppressors through Silencer Shop because of the ability to go to my LGS to scan my fingerprints. Silencer Shop also has a phone app where you can take your picture as well. It was very easy and Silencer Shop has been very forthcoming with where I'm at in the process. Right now they have plenty of incentives to purchase from them too. My stuff's been in jail for 5 months. Hopefully I'm halfway through the wait.

I did find it handy to have my fingerprints electronically on file at the SilencerShop, because that means that they can send me fully completed fingerprint cards in the event that I decide that I want to make an SBR or other Form1 item.
