Silencers gaining popularity among Maine gun users

"It’s that sound, or lack of it, that’s creating a sudden boom in local silencer sales."

Pretty good mainstream article about how the use of silencers is up in Maine. One of the reasons for the increase is to cut down on noise in order to keep the neighbors happy. The article goes on to mention that hunting with silencers is illegal. They mention the six month wait for the stamp.

Suppressor sells are up across the country and that is a great thing. It is taxing local ATF in my area enough that they recently added a new agent to keep up. Approvals are currently running 6-8 months here even with the new agent.

Very interesting. This seems to be the case in a number of states.

I work for a subsidiary of the paper that originally published the article(Sun Media Group). I knew the story was in the works and was pleasently suprised considering the generally anti-gun staff.
