Traded for a 1970 Ruger Single-Six a few months ago. Posted about it here.

Decided to send it in to Ruger to have them refinish it. They did a re-blue, fitted it with a .22 mag cylinder, replaced the grips, and did the "safety upgrade" / transfer bar install (however, they returned all the original parts).

It now looks like this...

And yes, it is the same gun! It is beautiful! I am SO glad I had them do the work. I'd thought about trying to re-finish it myself.

Haven't shot it yet, but looking forward to doing so. The trigger is not -quite- as nice as it was before the safety upgrade, but it's still very nice - and I would imagine it will get better.

And, I know I'm going to get asked... It was just north of $300 for the work.

Ruger customer service is outstanding

Wow that's an awesome makeover! That's also a very decent price for all of the work done to it, along with the .22 Magnum cylinder and new grips!

That is amazing! You did great. I think it was worth every penny.

I'm curious. When did you send it in / get it back?

I contacted Ruger about one of my Blackhawks.
I asked if they had a barrel in stock and if they would replace my existing barrel.

Their reply on 07/13/2023 was:
"Unfortunately we are not offering elective services at this time please check back at a later date."

Also... It's an old 3 Screw. I figured they would have at least wanted to get it back for the safety conversion.
Note: I did not specifically ask for the conversion.
I always heard that they did it automatically if they worked on a 3 Screw.

Anyways.... Congratulations on a sweet rig!

I contacted them a couple weeks ago. Had a local FFL mail it to them for me. (FFL wanted $20 to do so. Ruger wanted $40.) Got it back yesterday. Total turn around time was no more than two weeks. BTW - the return shipping was included in the cost.

woolfam,

Thanks for the info.
I may try reaching out to them again.
Worth a shot. I'm surprised they didn't jump at converting another Old Model. If you're interested in keeping the original action, I'd take the old parts out first. They don't always return them.

They are wonderful field pistols, and now yours is as new.

It looks like a new one. The first thing I would do if it were mine is reinstall the old parts. I have a 3 screw and a new model. The new one is nice, old is better. Same deal with two 357 Blackhawks.

That is awesome. Good Customer Service is hard to find these days. Glad for ya!

ruger always offers an excellent experience. my own experience is that ruger will do a full mechanical overhaul with the transfer bar safety upgrade all free, but any cosmetic work requires payment. im content with the dinged look as long as the guts are in top working order.

That looks really nice. I have my GFs old single six from 1961 and he sent it back for the trigger "upgrade". The trigger upgrade isn't all that great. They did send back the old trigger parts and I have considered reinstalling them and hopefully have a better trigger. It can't be any worse. The gun is nice and a decent shooter if you can get past the crummy trigger pull. It does have the 22 mag cylinder with it. I'm not sure that was with the gun or he had one fitted when he sent it back.
