I am curently testing out a rear aperture sight for the SKS, that
mounts to the rear of the reciever not the cover. It gives a long
sighting radius and returns to zero after removal. The other great thing is that it does not require any drilling or taping to mount. Because the mount is direct to the reciever it is not plagued by the loose fit of the cover.
The sight uses apertures from the M16/AR rifles, so there are a number
of aperture sizes available, depending on your preference. If anyone is interested, contact me at [email protected] or
[email protected].

Interesting. I know Lyman has or had a receiver mount peep for the SKS. That did require drilling and tapping, and was in the $70 range.

Is this a production item yet? Cost?

I would be interested also. The SKS can be very accurate with a good sighting system. I had a scope on mine but I just can't the looks of it. An aparature sight is ideal as long as it is tough and doesn't affect the looks of the rifle too much.

I haven't taken any pictures of the sight yet, but will try to get something together for you to look at. It follows the lines of the rifle pretty well and looks like it belongs there. I am very happy with the testing so far. Thanks
for the interest.

Hey, let me be the first to ask for pics, eh?

I recently shot a five shot 1.5" group at 100 yds. w/ my Yugo SKS and American Eagle. Prolly dumb luck, but I averaged 2" groups that day.

The SKS definitely shoots better than most believe it can. Improved sight radius can only help.

i think he means the reciever itself since there is no real lower reciever on an sks, just the reciever and the reciever cover.

It sounds like the new one will be mounted further back from the stock/Mojo/Williams rear sight for a longer sight radius.

Thankyou all for the interest. I will be able to supply you with more detailed information soon. I am in the process of making sure that the design is protected. The sight will be adjustable for windage only, at this point, still relying on the front sight adjustment of the SKS for elevation. I am looking at $60-70 price range. I beleive the Lyman aperature sight is around $70, but requires drilling and tapping. I appreciate your interest in the sight. I have enjoyed the process of designing and testing it, and beleive that it will turn a great rifle into an even better shooting system.
I will post more detailed information as soon as protection for the design is secured.

Regards.

I just thought I would update those interested in the SKS receiver mounted sight that I have been working on. We are in the process of getting the tooling made for production, so still no firm dates on delivery. We have sent one of the later prototypes to (WillRuss) one of the guys posting on Gunboards.com I think that you will find his results interesting. We are excited about how well the prototype sights turned out and we have made inprovements for the production model. I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. You can contact me at [email protected] or [email protected].

VERY interesting! Your design looks like it will rectify one of the main problems with the SKS -- crummy sights.

Looks good/interesting.

There is a (small) picture on the gunboards link. It replaces the takedown pin on the back of the receiver & then (I think) there is a set screw to lock the new pin (& sight) into the receiver.

A lot of us here are interested - keep us posted and let us see some pics.

Wow, that sight looks great. Can't wait to buy one!

I'll try to post the pic from gunboards:

Thanks again for all the interest in the new sight. Tooling is being prepared as I write this and delivery looks like mid October. The price will be in the $45.00 range. The sight gives a classic G.I. sight picture to the SKS and looks good with the lines of the rifle. I am attaching a preliminary specification sheet for the sight in PDF format. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have.

Wow, that thing looks nice. I have a Chinese SKS that I put one of Williams peeps on, but it's far from being rugged like the stock site. This seems like a great alternative. Now if we could only get people to make some more US compliance parts for them so we could 'customize' them to our hearts desire.

It may be possible to mount an aperture this way on the AK...we will see. It is much easier on the SKS because the verical distance between the rear pin and the sighting line is considerably shorter. Thanks for the interest.
