Recently at a gun show I bought a NCstar scope and mount for 50 bucks. It was cheap, and its for a fun gun, so why not. Im not expecting to hit quarters at 250 yards or anything. However, The reciever cover itself wiggles a little bit. My standard reciever cover wiggles as well, along with my other scope mount. The other scope mount is more sturdy and has the holes drilled into it to attach the mount. All 3 of the reciever covers have a tiny wiggle to them. Is this because of the pin at the end? Is this just the covers themselves? Or is this just normal? Ive heard that a wiggling cover will throw off your zero after a while. I was just wondering how much of a wiggle was neccessary to do this. Because what I am experiencing is just a tiny wiggle. If anyone can alleviate my sks troubles, I would be grateful. Thanks.

When you buy a new reciever cover style mount,

the forward points at the bottom of the cover are made extra long. The instructions mine came with ask to very slowly fit (file some and test tightness, repeat many times) the cover. The rear pin should be a difficult insertion and points forward should pressure evenly ( use a black sharpie, fit before ink dries, spy the shiny spots as being high, file LITTLE, repeat).

Doing this, a reciever covered scope mount will sort of hold zero (minute of torso).

Having said this, I can outshoot the aforementioned sks (wolf red ammo) with my new marlin .44 lever with buckhorn sights (mag tech 240 grn).

You can probably braze or weld material in the forward .25 inch of your old covers, and repeat the fitting to tightness. For the trouble, I would go and make a bridge over the the cover which welds or bolts to the reciever itself. This will also make it easier to field strip the cover because it need not be such a tight fit.

Others will have their own opinion, I'm no expert :D

thanks. The one scope mount seems pretty tight with a slight shift. The other just wobbles like its dancing almost. Ill figure it out eventually. Thanks for the info.
