i took the handguard off my russian sks to explain to someone how it worked i havent touched the thing in about 2 years so im a bit foggy but when it pulled the piston out of the gas tube there was no spring in there.

i swear i remeber there being one but im not sure i checked with my flashlight and there is nothing in there im wondering if i lost a spring last time i dissasembled it and just forgot it.

i checked my yugo m59/66 and it does not have a spring in there either i dont remember it being like that maybe i have sks gremins that steal my springs or something.

so guys should there be one in there?

Not on the gas piston itself. There is a spring on the operating rod in the rear sight block, however.
