I am looking for recommendations for a rifle sling that works. Mainly for carry, I look at ones in stores and I really do not like all the cheap looking ones with a wide pad. Thought?

For what gun? For what carry method? Do you have good sling loops for it? What size are they?

A sling, or a carry strap?

FWIW, aside from the proper period correct ones on a few guns, I only have two: the Ching Sling (leather, probably old school now) and some first gen VCASs I customized. These days, if you like nylon and plastic, their sling customizer is awesome: https://www.blueforcegear.com/custom-sling-builder

If an ar style platform you can not go wrong with blue force gear as recommended above.

If you want more of a minimalist style look at the Proctor Sling. Affordable and attaches to most anything out of the box

I prefer a Turner style for most of my hunting rifles and VTAC for ARs. Viking also makes a hunting style sling but I have not seen one in the flesh.

I've fabricated my own heavy duty slings from old luggage straps. Store slings are cheap, and cut into your shoulder, after about half an hour of carry.

The allen/Winchester/generic padded adjustable slings are a better sling than the Claw slings. Hate, with every fiber of my being, the Claw. For more expensive tactical style slings, vtac, blue force, and Short Action Precision are what gets my money.

armageddongear has a great sling i'd recommend for a rifle. many of the above, while great slings, are intended for carbine/AR15

Another vote for Montana Slings.........Beautiful work. I had a guy make one for me, a braided leather, that is one of the most functional slings I own. I have been looking at some really nice braided leather belts that I would like to have a leather guy fashion a sling out of. I really like tinkering with ideas like that, but I'm a horrible craftsman so have to find people to do the work for me and it can get expensive.

I might could help ya out Tom. :)

For a basic carry strap for a hunting rifle, I just get a camo one from wal mart. And to be honest, I used the same one for my M24 SWS in the mountains in afg.
