Smith & Wesson 2-1/2" model 66-4 .357 magnum

Greeting's Folk's-

What do you folks think of this firearm? The S&W model in question is a
2.5" barrel 66-4 with Hogue rubber (finger groove grips), and its serial
number is BSF33XX. I just noticed it has the old style cylinder latch as
well. Lockwork is tight, and fit and finish are excellent. What can you
guys (or gals) tell me 'bout this firearm? No box or doc's, but I can
wrap it up and place it under the Christmas tree for $225. Is it worth
it, or not?

amount of holsters,grips
and other stuff for it.I've
been trying to find one i
could afford for the past

I have a 2 1/2" 66 and it is a great gun. $225 is a steal for one in good shape. If I were you I wouldn't even let anyone else get a chance to buy it.

I paid $375 for one 66-2 2.5" with the fancy factory finger groove cocbolo grips with medallion LNIB condition last year. I was happy to get it at that price. The grips go on E-bay for about $80.

It is my regular CCW. I love it! I could shot the wings off of a mosquito at 15 yards with it, if the damn bug were just a tad bigger would just hold still! Dennis

Yes buy it. $225 is an incredible price. I let something like that get away a while back and I've been kicking myself ever since.

I don't think you could go wrong Dan...if it's in as good a condition a you state the $225 price tag is a steal ! You will like it as much as your M60....every little brother need an older brother ! I have a M66-3 2.5 " ...that revolver and my M60 would be the LAST guns I would choose to get rid of. Well...OK......there's the Colt Diamondback and Detective Special too.

....I agree...even at that price I think you got a good deal ! The S&W M66 2.5" revolvers sure are sweet !

I have a 66, no dash. Pinned and recessed. It's the most accurate snub I've ever shot. Wouldn't part with it.

Hec - I bought my old 66 with the 2 1/2" barrel for $210. In great shape! Oh yeah - that was around 1990! Today for $225 I would buy that 66 in a heartbeat!

Well folk's, I went ahead and gave the snub size S&W model 66-4
a new home. Many thanks for the advice, and pics provided by my
friend DHart. I will get the new Smith cleaned up this week-end,
and hopefully have some pics early next week.

Dan... congratulations... excellent deal on a fine, fine gun. I'm sure you'll love it. You might want to consider stoking it with Speer's new .357 135 gr. SB (Short barrel) ammo for it... the ammo has recently been released and it's good stuff as well as comfortable to shoot from snubbies. 990 fps from a 2" tube... would most likely be around 1000 fps from the 2.5" 66.

a great sidearm...
just a couple of things...
don't feed it a steady diet of 357...
38plus p is fine for most uses...
and for double action accuracy you
will need to keep in practice...
I used to hit really well with mine,
but dragged it out a few days agop for the
first time in years and was appalled at how
lousy I was shooting!...and was not gun!
it is just a snubby that demands a little
time..just like a good dog.

That's a nice piece DHart and congrats on the new one Dan.It seems like people are starting to rediscover just how daggum good K frames are recently and the price of them is levelling off if not going up.This one came out of my local shop a few weeks ago for $250 with 2 holsters,a couple speedloaders and 150 rounds of Remington LSJHP.Figured I couldn't pass it up and glad I didn't

Good Grief, Buy that gun!!! Same gun as a model 19 except in Stainless. The K frames are the bestest. Load it with the new 135gr Speer Gold Dots .38 spl +P or the 147 gr Silver Tips .357's or a 158 gr .357 Gold Dot or the maybe the Remington Gold Sabre 125gr mid level magnums but not too many 125gr'ers. Practice with .38 spl or +P's and for bussiness any of the above loads. Regards P.T.
