I picked up a Model 63 S&W in .22LR. It is a six shooter and I like the feel of it. I have yet to shoot it. I paid 250 for it and it looks to be in very good condition. Any opinions and did I pay too much? How is it as a shooter?

You got a GREAT deal, in my opinion. Model 63s usually go for $350 and up, depending on the condition, that I have seen. I paid $300 for one (excellent condition with original box) about five years ago and will never sell it.

I've shot more rounds out of that model 63 than any other handgun I own. It is a great shooter.

Pictures of my Model 63(4-inch)!

Following are some pictures of my Model 63-0, that I gave $400 OTD for:

Enjoy - I kick myself for not grabbing up a snubby one I saw at the gun show a few years ago.

Sigh.

I paid $200 with a Bianchi holster in Dec of 1999 for a 4" 63-nothing. Among the better guns I ever owned.

Gem, it's your fault

I read your post GEM, that you passed up a Model 63 snub at a gun show a few years back.

That made my mind up for me, I wasn't going to lose the one I saw at my local shop this week.

I had been hemming and hawing about it all week, made a bunch of posts here...asking people to talk me into it; but it was your post that pushed me over the edge. THANK YOU

I love the feel of that little revolver. I have no use for it, have plenty of other .22's far more practical, and some much better self defense carry guns...but that little gun is SOOOOOOOOOO "purty" I just had to have it.

I'm paying $315 for it here in Massachusetts, with the original plastic case and cleaning tools, which might be a little high...but like someone said, I'm paying what it WILL be worth soon

Thanks again GEM

You made a great buy! I paid $400 for my 2" 63 about a year ago, and have seen a few of them go for over $500 lately. Enjoy it!

I feel a lot better hearing that I got a good deal. The 63 and I are going to the range this week. The barrel is 4" for those who asked! Interestingly enough I found that these were discontinued in 1998.

At this point, THR is beginning to have a direct effect on the Consumer Confidence Index.

To all those who keep buying S&W J-frames for $30 and half a plug of chewing tobacco: may fiery demons nibble your toes as you sleep! I haunted all the auction boards to find one under $400 (found two that sold within minutes of being posted), and finally settled on a Rossi, which turned out to be defective and was returned to the shop. I finally decided that it's not in the cards for me, so am sticking with my stainless Bearcat. My excitement over buying a Marlin 60 for $50 rather pales in comparison to Steve's steal.

Congrats Depicts, we expect a full range report once you finish the 17.3 Day Waiting Period or whatever MA has.

Congratulations!

I bought a LNIB 4" 63 about 2 years ago for $400. It's my favorite revolver.

Slick6, what make are those grips on your 63?

If I could find one around here for under $350 I would buy it in a second.

It seems that everyone who owns a Model 63 wants to keep it.

The make of grips on my Model 63?

The grips on my Model 63-0 were made by Hogue!

Thanks Slick6. I have the original small factory grips on mine right now, but I think I might try a set like yours on my 63.
