Smith wesson standard catalog

I have the 2nd and 4th editions. The 4th seems to have all the info that the 2nd does plus more up to date info on the latest models at the time of the printing.
I would buy the 5th and maybe later get the others if you decide you just have to have them.

Thanks for posting, by the way. When I went to look at the price of the 5th edition on Amazon I found this and bought it.

It’s an old book (1945?) but I thought it would a cool addition to my book shelf. I can’t wait to read it.

An oldie but goodie -- I got the leather-bound reprint edition that came out back in the 1990s:

The main advantage of the newer eds. of the S&W Standard Catalog is that they include newer-production models and updated price estimates.

IMO the price estimates are almost meaningless, and since my interests run to older gats I'm satisified with my copy of the 3rd ed. However, if I was buying a copy today I'd want the latest ed.

I want to buy this book. Amazon has 3rd,4th, and 5th editions available. Is one better than the other ?

Another way to state some of the above:

If your interest is recently produced guns, the most recent edition makes sense. Most of mine are pre-1982, so the 4th Edition works fine for me.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not really interested in the newer stuff. I was curious if the later editions deleted older stuff in favor of new stuff.

I didn't know the 5th Ed. was in print yet. Definitely get that one, it has additions not in the 4th Ed, plus revisions. The estimated values it gives when describing a model will be current as well, instead of 8 years old. Looks like I'm gonna be in the market for a new one, too.

The catalog doesn't delete old models in favor of new. It is a compendium of everything S&W has manufactured and is the "Bible" for S&W enthusiasts.

Correct.....And each successive catalog has less and less about the older stuff.......1 & 2 are good.......wouldn't buy it but was given 3..........4 & 5.....Bahhh
