I ( being an idiot) traded my talo edition sp101 snub nose. So Im officially in the market for a ccw revolver. I have two choices a colt agent fairly used for 500 or smith and wesson model 64 2 inch barrel for 400. the 64 has only been fired 25 times since the 80s. dont have a pic of it but ive inspected it already,have not seen the agent.So help me choose , colt namesake though decently used, or smith smoothness almost new?

That Colt looks rode hard and put away wet.
I think I see a lot of rust on the barrel, etc.

Even the trigger guard looks bent in the left side photo.

I'm with RC. If both were in similar condition, the D-frame colt would be nice as it could be pocket carried, but both are a bit big for that.

S&W would be my pick..... hands down!

I absolutely do not knock a Colt, but the one thing that never pleased me on a Colt Revolver was the cylinder release....

I would pass on both. While surprisingly difficult to find on second-hand market four hundred is going price for 2" RB S&W Model 12 in very good condition. That gun is "head and shoulders" above what you shown in the pics.

What was shown in the pics is the $500 Colt from both sides.

He said the $400 S&W had only been fired 25 times since new.
But he didn't post pictures of it.

Looking at the Colt from the left side: Might be a crack in the topstrap above the cylinder/barrel gap. It also appears to be Parkerized, which was only done after the company fired it's experienced polishers so they could replace them with lower paid new hires. Not a smart move.

The Old Fuff would say, "thanks, but no thanks."

I am also not a fan of the S&W 64, as I consider it to be too large and unbalanced for the intended purpose. However if you like them big and heavy...

I would take the Smith. It could take a few +P loads here and there and Smith had stronger actions. An excellent in or on the waist band gun.

I say neither and look for a steel framed DS (just love 'em, more indeed than the alloy Cobra and Agent)!

Just sayin'. Vintage Smith Chiefs Special is OK for me too, but you are giving up a round. How 'bout a 2" mod 10? (A dick special is still better IMHO).

I pocket carry Agents and like them....However, that one is way overpriced.

I'd rather have a comparable condition Colt or a fixed sight K frame Smith, than a 64.
I don't like adjustable sight revolvers for CC. For something in the size range of a D frame Colt to a K frame Smith, I like to carry IWB.
Those adjustable sights don't feel good, rubbing against my hide.

Then again, I like my CC snubs to chamber calibers starting with 4 and ending with 4 or 5.
For me, the Charter Bulldog .44 Spl wins.

Jaymo the model 64 has fixed sights. It is afterall the stainless model 10

Go with the Model 64. I had one of those "cost cutting" Colt Agents and it was one of the most poorly assembled and finished revolvers I have ever come across.

While I'm not particularly a fan of the Agent, I'll take a Colt over a Smith anytime. Most days I have a Detective Special in my pocket.

Out of what you give as options go with the S&W hands down. Since you miss your ruger though go check out an lcr.
