So I am planning on getting a handgun soon and while I can find shops here in Southern California that sell long guns I am having a hard time finding places that sell handguns.

I know of Turners but they really don't have a huge selection and they are pretty expensive.

Anyone know of/can recommend any good shops in the Los Angeles area?

Turners actually has some of the best prices in SoCal when their sales come out. For example, their selling CPO Sig P220's for $600 right now whereas most smaller shops will be charging or more. They're asking $489 for XDs.. smaller shops want over $500 for them I usually just wait around until what I want goes on sale :)

IMO, the best gun shop in SoCal is Ammo Bros in Cerritos.. http://www.ammobros.com/ .. prices are a little high, but they have a lot of everything in stock.

::):))Ammo bros. in cerritos has handguns for sale and the staff there are very helpfull and can help u select a good handgun. they also sell ammo both new and reloads - good place to stop and lookaround . thay are off the 605 freeway near cerritos college. good luck

Check out Ade's Gun Shop 223 S Tustin St Orange CA 92866. Ade is very nice and has some good deals from time to time. His hours are whacky so call first. 714 744 3373. He can get about anything you want. :)
 
I have been buying guns lately on the internet. my last was just this friday from Budsgunshop.com I got a S&W 629 5". They had the best prices and saved me over $200 on the purchase had I done it through Turners. Also Turners charges a lot more to do a FFL transfer & DROS.

Check out Gunrunners in Duarte. They are good.

The Sigs are German Police Trade In's. Not sure if that 's a good price for a used refurbished gun. I prefer to buy NIB Not LEO used guns.
 
how many times do you think LEOs shoot their guns a year?

not very often. I do work for a pretty big firearms manufacturer that gets a lot of police clients. cops have a reputation for being really picky about their guns' aesthetics but being also very lousy shots. not bashing cops just stating what the rep is, and how they get it around here.

i do know of quite a few cops who are excellent shots and embarass me often, but the average cop is pretty ho-hum in handgun competency aroun dhere./

the point is, those german 225s are a bargain for anyone that doesn't have a sig.

I own 5 sigs. if i wasn't on dros right now id buy that 225. the 225 is discontinued, no longer made, and is a VERY compact size. its an excellent piece that I would be proud to own.

I got one of the P220's a couple weeks ago, twas an excellent buy for 600 IMO. I swear, If I didnt know better, I'd think this thing was brand new.

If you don't mind the drive, Duncan's Gun Works in San Marcos, near Escondido, is a wonderful place to visit.

Not only do they keep a good stock of new and used handguns, but they do gunsmithing that is absolutely world-class. One of their double shotguns graced the cover of Guns Magazine some years back and when I mentioned that gun to one of the owners, I was allowed to handle and admire that very gun. At $23,000, it was a tad out of my budget that day.

The personnel are very friendly and knowledgeable, and you will see some interesting and unusual guns. On my last visit, I handled a Merkel side-by-side in .470 Nitro Express...it was also a bit rich for my blood, but they let me handle and covet it!
 
+1 on Gunrunners. Just don't go there looking for a used gun, most of their used stock is on consignment, and the owners are... optimistic, to say the least.
 
Here in Bakersfield, we have 4-5 gunshops + a few pawn shops selling handguns. One of the gunshops has a pretty large selection of handguns representing most of the major mfg's.
 
I live in LA and found Turners to have the best prices. There is a good shop in Burbank called Gun World....great place to try out handguns.....that have many many different models. Sig, Glock, S&W, Ruger, Kimber Springfield, H&K, Taurus, Walther, and a bunch more. But don't buy there....they price way over anyone else and have a crappy attitude. I bought my XD-45 Service at Turners and it was $120 cheaper then Gun World. But like I said I use Gun World to shop and view..not buy.
 
Well it sounds that Turners has better prices than I thought, they just lacked many actual guns in stock/on display. I never really compared their handgun prices to anything b/c, well, I didn't have anything to compare to. Thanks for all your input.

Hmmm... so you're on the border of OC and LA.

Socal prices aren't gonna be low,that's a fact. If theres something you want but not pay for store prices, you'll have to buy online. But the advantage of buying in store is that you see the gun you're buying.

In OC we have:

Ade's Gunshop (my favorite shop. Huge following too from guys on CGN)
Fowlers (across the street from Ade's. High prices)
Stockade in Westminster (sister store to Fowlers)
Grant Boys (little selection, not very knowledgeable people there)
Flag Guns (waste of time)
On Target (Range with guns on display)

A little farther you'll find Bass Pro Shop in Rancho Cucamonga. It's a BIG store, they have a decent selection of firearms, but it'll be similiarly priced as Turners.

In LA you can check out Rettings. Good selection, but high prices too.
 
gbran, what are the names of those pawn shops. i got to bakersfield kinda regularly and would love to shop at those.

i have been over to 2A sports, it seemed nice, but all the prices seemed on the high side to me.

I have Camarillo Shooters supply and Shooters paradise in Oxnard for local gun stores. Shooters paradise is high, and i got my ruger for 100 cheaper than the identical gun sitting in there case, and that was after tax and paperwork fees. i got it through gallery of guns and had it delivered to Camarillo Shooters Supply.
 
It's been time to leave this state for along time. :)

I know everyone hates Turners, but their sale prices kick the ass of other gun shops. I think the can offer lower prices due to their business model. Turners does not need to have inventory on hand at each store. They have a warehouse that serves all their stores.

You go to Turners and handle a gun in the display case. If you decide you want it, they'll get the serial # and such out of their computer system and start the DROS and your 10 day wait. While you're waiting, the gun is shipped from the warehouse and is ready when you go to pick it up.

That's my favorite shop. While they don't have as many new handguns as Turner's, sometimes some nice used guns show up in the used handgun display. For me, the pluses are the customer service (they know me by name) and the fact that Pete, who runs the place, is also a gunsmith.

But as stated earlier, if Turner's has a sale, it is usually hard to beat that price.

Gunrunner's in Duarte also has a decent selection of handguns.

BTW, I've never purchased a gun from them, but I've shot at an indoor range in Artesia called "Insight" a few times. They sell guns also so it might be a good chance to rent a gun to try out before you decide which model you want to buy. Dunno about their prices, though. Good luck in your search.
