I decided the cheapest way to get a 10mm carbine was a Mechtech conversion.




I can covert to and from pistol to carbine. I think I'm going to like it, myself.

It's not like it's permanent. Right now I am in the process of SBRing a Glock 17. When I want the nine inch barrel will come out and the stock will come off.

It's too bad they don't make one that will accept a EAA Polymer Witness in 10mm. Well, at least it shoots good, and that's the point really. Enjoy.

The only cheaper route would be to pick up a hipoint 4095 carbine and ream it for 10mm. It is a fairly common conversion.

The mechtech looks a lot nicer though.

What distance were those targets shot? I think the conversion is fine if that is what you think you need. I have a .44 Mag SBH and a Ruger 77/44. I can see why you'd want your pistol caliber in a carbine.

I agree with the several who suggested a RIA, but one better, how about an 80%?
What does the chronograph say the velocity is out of that?

I see basic Mechtechs all the time on Gunbroker for under $400. I got mine from Mechtech and had a few extras put on on like collapsable stock, folding sights, and the red dot scope. Came out to just a little over $700, less than 1/2 the price of the Dan Wesson Razorback that I use for the lower. Plus I can still reconfigure the Wesson back to pistol.

The only thing I do not like is the bolt doesn't lock back after the last round is fired. I have several mags that I put in Chip McCormick springs and followers to make them hold 9 rounds instead of 8. When I slap a loaded mag in I can't tell if it is holding 8 or 9, and I pull the trigger on an empty chamber a lot. So counting the rounds as I fire them is no help. I need to paint some kind of identifying mark on my modded magazines.

I've had a mechtech for my 1911 for years. I put a cheap BSA sight, kind of like a holo sight on it and never looked back. My son just loves the thing. So far it's been 100% reliable with everything I've fed it.

I don't mean to detract, but the word 'rape' is something we should use rather carefully. Rape is a violent crime. I get how you are using it, but still...

That aside, I think a 10mm carbine is actually pretty cool. How is the functioning?

The conversion is a simple blow back isn't it? Can the conversion handle the "real" 10MM ammo like the old original Norma 200 at 1200, Buffalo Bore 180 at 1350, equivalent reloads,etc???

Different options would do it justice.

Only my opinion of course but....

I like following the simplicity, utilitarianism, and "Steniness" of those Magtechs by having simple CAR stocks and limited iron sights.

All in all though, you've struck on one of the sweetest, most effective and intelligently priced proper "carbines" available today.

The Mechtech takes the place of the pistol's slide,barrel, guide rod, and recoil spring. You just disassemble the slide from the pistol as in a normal field strip and slide the pistol body into the CCU. You lock it in with the normal slide stop pin. The pistol acts as the trigger module to fire the rounds. To go back to pistol, just pull the slide stop pin back out, pull the pistol from the CCU and reassemble the regular pistol slide back in. You are then back to pistol. So for way less than the pistol cost me, I also have a carbine.

I do have an RIA 10mm pistol I could use, but then it requires I buy an extra part called a parablock to correctly feed the rounds into the CCU.
