Have not had a Glock in the stable before until I picked up a 43 awhile back. It seemed ok, so when I saw this 19 Gen 4 MOS for a decent price, I thought I would give it a try. Been wanting to play with a dot for awhile since the aging eyes are getting older. Have not had a chance to shoot it yet, but figure it will definitely fine.

Got a few questions for the crowd.......

LGS has a Vortex Venom 3 MOA that I will probably will pick up and give a try. Has a lifetime warranty, which is always a plus. Will probably want taller sights to use with the dot. Recommendations?

Also want to pick up a threaded barrel for it. Any recommendations for $150 or under.

Also see where some of the 19's had issues with brass to the face. Is that anything I need to worry about order what gets change to fix that?

I have a G19 MOS and I put a Burris FF3 on it. I don't think taller sights will help enough to co-witness but I haven't tried. I bought a cheap $80-90 threaded barrel and it works just fine. I can't recall the brand offhand. Were I you, I would wait until you find a barrel on sale that you like. In. Pistol barrel you won't see that much difference IMO.

For what it's worth, the red dot makes a huge difference to me.

Tall sights - Trijicon, Ameriglo

I’ve got 10-8 MOS sights on the 19 in the pic. They’re not suppressor height, but I think 10-8 makes some.

Barrel - Agency Arms, especially their blemished sales. I have one in my 19 and it’s been 100%. Silencerco, Surefire, some others make a reputable barrel; but to get a “great” barrel at $150 or less; you’re probably looking at blems, lightly used, or a good sale. I think my Agency Arms barrel was $150.

Brass to face in my previous Gen3/4 pistols was solved immediately with a new ejector.

Trijicon suppressor height sights work and clear your RDS .

Will you be shooting a suppressor? Depending upon the load, you may need to consider different recoil springs.

SilencerCo threaded barrels are solid. Check out Brownells.

Just so you know, the threaded barrels work across Gen 3-5. I have SilencerCo barrels for my Glock 19 , Glock 30, Glock 17, Glock 23 and Glock 22.

Like my Vortex Venom even though I've only have 200 rounds using it. My old eyes seem to do better with it than with irons. I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Nice looking setups there.

Yes, plan on shooting suppressed down the road. What spring did you change to?

Some of the late gen 3's had problems with brass to the face & stove pipes. My first 19 did this so I called Glock & they paid the shipping (twice) before they got it right. They replaced the ejector # 336 with a # 30274 & a new extractor. It's been 100% since & most brass lands in the same place. Not all gen 3's had this problem, but glocks in general have erratic ejection which seems normal for glock.

Have not had any extraction problems with my Gen2 which Glock made it a Gen 3 after the frame cracked. But I believe the trigger is so much better now, so smooth and soft.

Personally for the dot size I would start at 6moa and up. Makes it easier to pick up fast than smaller dots.

I prefer 6 moa for hand guns and 3 moa for rifles. 3 moa can be hard to pick up at speed and under recoil on handguns at my skill level.

Venoms and FF3s are both excellent and represent the real value point in red dots. I run all mine without visible iron sights. No big deal. I can hardly use them anyway. These two red dots are very reliable and shouldn’t need backup. For everyday carry I would leave the optic on all the time and just change the battery on a tight, regular schedule like once a week. Cheap enough in bulk. And you will never have a failure.

I agree and don’t. I see handguns as two different categories. Yes 6 MOA for SD and expected shots of less than 10 yards. But for longer target work 3 MOA is a better choice even on a handgun.

Bear creek threaded Glock barrels are cheap, $50 usually, and they work. I have had expensive ones that didn’t.

I bought one of these, and for the life of me could not get a consistent grouping with my RDS. Swapped back to the OEM at the range and the groups went back to decent for off hand shooting.

If anyone wants to buy a barrel with ~25 rounds through it and a thread protector, PM me. $30 shipped CONUS.

Perhaps it is as simple as the OD of the barrel being too small so that there is slop between the slide and the barrel. On a 1911 you could just buy an oversized match grade barrel bushing and polish it down to a perfect fit. I guess not so much with a Glock.
