So I've got a year...

Getting rid of 10 round mags gets rid of most firearms they fit in. NY will be a state of 1911s and shotguns with a few bolt actions. If they can't ban them they will make them useless. If you have a magazine that holds more than 7 rounds your are a criminal. That is the plan, period. These guys are pushing hard.

I wouldn't be surprised if people with FFL's start charging crazy rates to transfer firearms to buyers in other states. When the ban does go into effect those same FFL holders, all firearm companies, and firearm accessory companies will leave in the biggest exodus since Moses. Then anybody who really truly believes in the 2nd Amendment and wants their firearm rights will leave. It will be a state of the Rich, the Polititians, the criminals (some of those will be people that didn't leave and have these high cap 10 round mags) and the welfare receiving voters. They will have one notable distinction after that:

THE WORLDS BIGGEST CESSPOOL!
And in ten years, NY will be a state of just a few break-open sporting and hunting shotguns, and only the elite will have those.

We are at their mercy.

We can only hope to still hang onto the scraps they let us keep.

They are our owners, masters, and parents.

Our fantasy of being in control, of the NRA, and of Republicans to save us was merely a fantasy.

We have LOOOST!

Oh wait.. no we havent.

Lets just see how this one plays out boys.

After all, most of us dont live in NY, so... ya know. No skin off our nose.

Joking.. joking... Little humor for the dark day.

Guys, we still have the NRA. they will roll this law like it never was here in the first place.

I guess it just hit me. We have lost a state full of fellow 2nd Amendment rights supporters to state sponsored tyranny. I don't know what else to call it. Laws being voted on in the night behind closed doors sounds like something monarchs do to their subjects to keep them in line or else. These laws do mean or else, because they wouldn't mind the money they make off of the fines and jail time they will give you if you don't comply.

With deep sorrow I will say that you NY gun owners are up a certain creek without an object to row with. NY has done something uncalled for and has also become morally and unconstitutionally retarded. I can't say how sorry I am for you. I am outraged at what has transpired and I'm sicked by what a state I don't even live in has done to their own voters and citizenry. I can't say that some people didn't see it coming, they made a law about how much soda you can drink. Shame on you NY elected officials, you have set your state back around 237 years.

This is the historic reality of New York: Short sighted and basically ignorant lawmakers, over the past 70-80 years, have incrementally offered up poor laws to cope with the rapid growth and sophistication of modern society in their "big city" and the state that wraps around and supports it. They have grabbed at straws, put bandaids on problems beyond the scope of their insight, and failed to direct that society into any semblence of efficiency. It teeters on the edge of collapse at any serious natural disaster, let alone a serious manmade challenge. Now, in attempt to defy logic or history, their lawmakers have offered up a kneejerk "solution" to a statistically non-existent problem (if you view the statistics, the likelyhood of mass shootings is pretty low on the crime tally in New York, or anywhere)). They have crippled and insulted responsible citizens in their state, because they have forgotten (or never knew) why an armed citizenry was important. They think they have progressed beyond the "barbaric" necessity to defend themselves, or defend against tyranny. It hurts me to think of the pain that will be caused by the path they have chosen to pursue their "utopia".

I don't why they didn't make it ten. a lot of companies already make 10 round magazines as an option, because of California's magazine laws. What, is New York trying to one up us in stupidity?
I think that was the point. No one makes 7 round mags so no one will have mags for their standard capacity guns.

Yes there are a few that run 7 round mags but you know what I mean.

I suspect someone could make a fortune selling kits to modify existing magazines to comply with these insane new laws. No doubt for more than the original cost of the magazines. Maybe a trade in program to send your 8+ rd mags in to the manufacturer in return for factory modified compliant mags.

I would be organizing and supporting some attorneys to fight this in court. That is your only hope is to challenge this from a Constitutional angle.

This law bans basically most semi auto pistols, M1 Garands, and even semi auto 22 rifles. How can this be Constitutional?

Even DC allows 10 round mags because it got spanked in court over trying to limit people to revolvers.

Anyone heard of civil disobedience over an unjust law? The Boston Tea Party... Will see if this thing passes.

Looks like a lot of young New Yorkers will be heading South and West in the coming years. Pennsylvania will probably see a population surge with all the businesses that relocate there. They will need employees. Jersey... for get about it.

Quit complaining and contact your state firearms associations and NRA and ACLU and start to work on making this the quickest overturn in history.
As you may well know most of us have contacted our reps, And it doesnt seem to be making a bit of difference.

What now?

Why do New Yorkers need to move? And you can't run forever ...

This stupid law won't help law abiding citizens better protect their lives! Imagine a lady getting raped/killed because several intruder broke into her house and she ran out of bullets after 7 rounds!

If you want to protect your lives and lives of your family members, STAND UP AND FIGHT! If you are pissed off, let your law makers know how you feel and let them know you'll be voting them out for doing this!

Can't imagine owners of .22 caliber pistols/rifles with 10 round magazines now becoming criminals! ... Really?
How do you suggest we fight? Contacting them does not seem to be doing any good. we either get canned responses or a big FU from them.
I have actually seen respones that had nothing to do with gun contol but and was directed at filibusters. sow hen you get those kinds of respones what is the next step.
I keep hearing this but no real suggestions on what to do?

It just goes to show how hypocritical the politicians are.
A year to "sell them out of state."
So an 8 shot magazine is too dangerous for New York but it is ok to pass off elsewhere.

That was my first thought when I heard this, they are BAD, go sell them somewhere else.
Hypocritical and sad.

Some mucky-muck in the NY legislature must be a 1911 owner; otherwise the cap would be 6.

You hit that one right on the head, I'm betting.

We have lost a state full of fellow 2nd Amendment rights supporters to state sponsored tyranny

It is a shock Skribs. And all we can do is become their supply chain...like the French during what will soon be know as the First Revolution.

As if prozac isn't enough to make people with guns go crazy, NY has to aggravate otherwise legit gun owners to the point of crazy? Perhaps it should be a mental competency test for ELECTED OFFICIALS to answer if they would foolishly attempt to take away the rights of a heavily armed public, and if they would, they are not mentally fit enough to serve (or own guns themselves).

My condolences New York. This is a scary time for all of us who cherish freedom.

I'm not a legal scholar so I may be far off on this, but couldn't an argument be made that this infringes the fifth amendment clause prohibiting the deprivation of one's private property without due process of law? Forcing someone to sell something (magazines in this case) that was purchased legally when no crime was committed seems like a deprivation without due process to me.

Just wait.....obummer is going to reveal his 19 EOs pertaining to gun control tomorrow.......chris3

what would happen if 100,000 NY citizens marched on the capital, with now "illegal" magazines in hand loaded completely and demanded to be arrested? hell go as so far as to do something to cause your arrest. 100,000 people flooding the legal system (with the associated costs to the system) could be quite interesting. heck i bet with 100,00 of you there at least one of you could get in to see Cuomo and have a "talk" with him... by any means necessary.
