Softest shooting semi-auto in a Significant Caliber?

Genitron

Go to the Genitron site. Almost every pistol made is rated there as a CCW. One factor is measured recoil. One can view and compare the recoil of many pistols until you're out of energy. The S&W M&P ranks very high in this regard as does the SIG 226 and 228. I bought a 226 about a month ago and I'm very happy with the felt recoil, price, workmanship and accuracy.
Your results may vary!

i used to shoot a G17 with EFK Firedragon dual spring recoil reducer and the cheapest 147 gr 9mm i could find. the damn thing would shoot itself. my double-taps looked like figure 8s. selling that gun was a bad move. if you don't shoot IDPA, you should. it will change everything you know about shooting and kinda' make recoil-reaction a thing of the past.--robby

Springer Loaded 9mm the most easy shooting handgun i ever shot that isnt a 22

Mine certainly is; another one is the STI Trojan in 9mm, and I'll bet the SW1911 in 9mm is another soft shooter - skeeter_08

+1000

I love how I can go to a typical indoor range and think 'dang i'm good' then go to an IDPA match and get my arse handed to me. It's humbling but their is an incredible amount to be gained by shooting competitively. (Disclaimer: IDPA also made me realize that the cheapest thing about shooting is the gun!)

A friend gave me the opportunity to fire two Sig 239s in three calibers.

The ammo was standard jacketed round nose, and none had excessive recoil.

There was the expected and noticeable increase in recoil from 9mm, .357 Sig and 40cal.

The 40 cal had a pretty sharp snap in that gun.

I bought a 9mm because I was comfortable and accurate with it, .357 Sig is expensive to reload (but I like the ballistics) and the 40 snap slowed me down.

All the above illustrates exactly what would be expected, the higher the cal. the more recoil you'll percieve in a given gun.

Find the gun that right for you and pick the caliber you're comfortable with.

I'll add another for the PX4
After shooting my brother's PX4 9mm I'd have to say that it is the most soft/smooth shooting semi auto I've personally shot. It's bizzare because it is light weight polymer - i did not expect the rotating barrel to improve recoil that much. Most polymer pistols have more recoil than full sized metal, but this one is very impressive, and very accurate also.

I own a CZ P01, and while I like the gun - it has fairly harsh muzzle flip, making rapid fire shots difficult to control (I'm a small guy with toothpick arms). I'm guessing this is due to the combination of shorter barrel and light weight.

I have also shot a couple .380 pistols - such as the Beretta Cheetah. It was a nice gun, but had very harsh recoil to me. I've heard small framed .380s can be like that.
