SOG pentagon or something like it

I am looking for a new "boot" stile knife. I have been looking at the sog pentagon and the mini pentagon but I haven't put my hands on them. Are they good knives for the price as far as edge holding, do they come sharp like benchmade and spyderco or will I wan't to put an edge on one as soon as it comes out of the box. Who else makes a simillar knife IE plain edge on one side and serated on the other. I carried a gerber back up on my flak jacket and it was a good knife but I really would like to have a serated edge as well a plain. Thanks for any ideas.
It will be used for genral cutting while out on the boat, hunting, camping that sort of stuff and possibly as a back up SD weapon god forbid I can't reach my gun. And just because I miss having a Boot stile knife my gerber was stolen a couple years ago.

I've always been a big fan of the Kershaw Military boot knife. I've had an old style Gerber Yari made from 154CM which has been a great knife, they now have a new version which is made from S30V.

Daggers are not generally considered to be practical designs for general use. They are primarily weapons.

If your application is as a general duty tool then why pick a dagger?

I posted this in another thread. I have an older Pentagon Elite that was given to me as a gift. I've never used or carried it. Why? Too BIG. I prefer around a 3.5 inch blade for a carry folder. If you are dead set on this knife, PM me if you are interested in it. The older ones like mine were made in Seki, Japan, not Taiwan like the newer ones. I will say this, its got a very solid lock up and no blade play which is something for such a big blade.

One of the nice things about the Yari is that it's slender enough to carry as a boot knife and still has a good practical shape for every day use.

I guess I mostely just want one. I carry a benchmade mel pardue axis tanto that is ten years old now and has been great as an all around good knife. I just miss having a "dagger" around to use once and a while even when its maybe not the ideal knife. Mostely I am looking to see if the guys who have a pentagon like it or if people know of other plain/serated stile daggers that aren't junk. thanks for the replies

I loved it... but its worthless. Its a weapon with a VERY narrow purpose.

The greatest feature is the handle, and ther Pentagon Shares its handle with the Northwest Ranger. Check it out.

crkt "sting"(3.2" 1050 steel), sog "mini pentagon"(3.5" aus 6 steel). the "sting" is about $25. less and has much better steel.
