SOG Spec Elite Mini HOLY WOW

Its pretty thick. IT DEFFINATLY feels VERY solid in your hands. Its SUPER light weight. I cut through a steel leader with it! Best damn pocket knife ive ever had. Street legal as well. Did I mention that it was light and super sharp?

This is carried everyday. HIGHLY recommend!

Now I want the SOG sharpener but I doubt ill need it for awhile.

The lock system is amazing and very secure. Becareful handling it you will cut yourself.

Cant beat the VG-10 steel and its thick! This should last a lifetime. Undercover DEA agents carry it as well as some LE AND Military.

I got it from knifeworks.com for $101.00 shipped to my doorstep within 2-3 days.

Made in Seki, Japan and is stamped.

Primary uses will be everyday carry/general knife for cutting stuff like line etc or opening boxes shaving wood for kindle etc etc etc. In a SHTF scenario if you were armless I could think of a way to very effectively save your life with it.

I was looking for an elite grade every day carry pocket knife thats tactical and practical. I believe I got just that. Pics dont do it justice.

Opens smoothly and easyly with your thumb, can be used lefty or righty, and you can adjust tension on it as well. Can handle it extremely well with one hand.

I think I covered all the bases. The blade is heavier then the casing (not by much) which is very durable btw. bead blasted blade that dont glare much if at all wont give your position away. Casing is some kind of polymer that they cover in glass or something like that I read. Comes in a SOG box with pictures of people from different walks of life including military.

GAMEOVER44 glad you are happy with your new knife.

I hope you post a reveiw of it after a few months of carry and use.

JShirley: I closed it and left my pinky in the way and the slightest touched opened me up a tiny bit. Nothing major. Im talking about how well it locks up. I practice with it everyday only had it a week. I slide it open with my thumb, then engage the locking mechinism and slide it down. One time it brushed my pinky and opened it. Hair size cut..

dayhiker: Ill wait til Fall and then do a full write up on it. So far though I cant find a better true pocket knife.

I looked at Benchmade as I heard good things but the Spec Mini just seemed to fit what I was looking for in a pretty much mil-spec pocket knife.

bannock: You get what you pay for.. I think it was worth every penny especially if its going to last the rest of my life. Plus it does have a lifetime warranty.

I want the SOG sharpener

There are much better out there.

Undercover DEA agents carry it as well as some LE AND Military.

Ignore marketing like that. What matters is whether it fits the applications that you need it for, not some ninja's.

mil-spec pocket knife

Careful with the hyperbole. The only "mil-spec" knives are not actually what you'd want since they happen to be very different from what you got.

I just wanted a really good pocket knife and I believe I found one. However I want to test it all summer and into the fall before I do a write up on it. Me mentioning the DEA etc was just to throw that out that if agencies like those trust these knives out in the field theres got to be a reason. Mil spec was the wrong word.

Gov't agencies make mistakes and buy junk sometimes just like everybody else. Not a buying criteria I would use. Having had it only a week, you may be a little premature in forecasting a lifetime of use.

I have a SOG Twitch II which I'm not thrilled with. The blade chipped not long after I got it, I did nothing which should have caused it. Not a SOG fan at this point.

Good luck with yours.

Speedo66: Did that have the VG-10 steel? howd you chip your twitch? Which twitch did you have?

Good things are manufactured in Japan especially blades this has been noted for centuries.

Edit** you said twitch 2 I missed that. That has a lower quality steel and looks cheaper even then this one I have. STILL curious how you chipped it? You do know theres a lifetime warranty right?

From SOGs site
VG-10 Stainless Steel

VG-10 is well-known high-end Japanese steel and is considered premium. It contains vanadium which is known for its toughness. The steel is specially designed for high-quality blades used in cutlery. VG-10 can be sharpened to a fine edge that is very durable. It can maintain a hardness of Rc 60 without becoming brittle.

I know they have been around for sometime now, but I really like the current selection of small - medium sized, but stout folders. These are the size and shape that generally don't attract to much attention, but are stout enough for all around use, and as a last ditch weapon.

I've been using a Benchmade Mini Griptillian, sp, for several years now. As far as I can tell it's about an ideal all around pocket knife.

But does it baton good? Did you build a lean-to with it chopping wrist sized saplings?

My friend bought a SOG knife (model uknown) recently. Let me tell you that thing cuts packing tape and opens packages and letters like butter.

What do you mean does it baton good? Yes it is VERY sharp like I said in an earlier post I went to close it and left the edge of my pinky out and it hair sliced it with VERY little force.

SOG has long ties and was MADE in conjunction with the US Military youd imagine they'd be hard to beat by any knife company if it can meet US Military standards. Go to SOGs website www.sogknives.com and just read about them and their history.

The VG-10 steel has Vanadium in it and is known NOT to be brittle at all. Id bet it wouldnt chip as someones twitch mentioned did.

Id be shocked if this blade didnt last me a lifetime and I dont think thats an exageration.

Since not ALL SOG blades are made with VG-10 steel as one might think it kind of makes you wonder what exactly they had in mind when designing this blade. I read about it off SOGs webiste but have found no owners. Some complained about the price but I got a deal as SOGs site says $145.00 I got mine from knifeworks.com for $101.00 shipped to my door.

Youd really have to handle this knife its very different. Thick blade thats under 3 inches.

I couldnt find a knife that I FELT was better made given these specs this Spec Elite Mini.. I wonder what branch of military uses it and for what purpose?

VG-10 can chip. ANY steel can chip. It depends on much, much, more the the Vanadium content of the steel.

Believe me. I own VG10 knives from Fallkniven and Spyderco. VG10 is a pretty good steel, but it is not the end all be all of stainless.

I dont see how I could chip it unless I hit a bad angle on something very hard. It cut through a steel leader like nothing.

All my pocket blades before this one were very cheap and I never chipped a single one and now I have a 145.00 blade thats obviously up there in quality I just have a hard time seeing how I could chip it.
