Solvent Trap to Supressor Questions

I use cimtech coolant for titanium, if you haven't machined any Ti you should read up on it. It's low thermal conductivity means tooling won't last as long and it is bad about work hardening, if you let a tool dwell you'll be making sparks in no time.

This is excellent information. For the "home machinist," let me say that I drilled out the titanium end cap for a solvent trap suppressor. I used a Harbor Freight drill press, set on some bricks in the yard, with a garden hose pouring water over the work piece at a constant rate. It kept the entire thing cool, preventing the drill bit from getting trashed and the cap from getting hot and work hardening.

In other words, water will work fine... just don't be shy with it.

Also, use small bits and work your way up to the final bit size. It works way better than trying to drill the whole thing with a large bit.

Thanks Aaron, that will be my plan.

Waiting on an email hopefully confirming that the titanium storage cups will fit nicely inside the other companies titanium tube. If confirmed, then I will file for that tube length for that can. Going to probably use that tube dimension for another stamp, that one I may go aluminum all the way, for lighter use, or a pistol caliber carbine.

a 2 flute carbide end mill with a little coolant pops right through Titanium.

So that would be the only bit I needed? No reason to start small and work my way up? That would save a lot of time and effort, plus only have to buy 1 good bit.

Not accepting gmail is absurd.

Indeed. Totally asinine circa Q3 2016.

Its a good site that isnt over moderated...like the high road.

True, though it is a while since I've been on ST. NFATalk is completely free-wheeling with very little moderation. It is normally a good kind of crazy though. Well, usually. ;)

Thats it and you can do it on a press but a lathe will get your hole centered a lot easier.

Yeah, I think you are dead on, however that ain't in the budget, LOL.

More money went out the door to the BATFE last night. Want to get my plan down before sending more before this weekend.

Ok in other news, a free AOL account works for SilencerTalk. Once I get a few posts in, may try and go to the CP and change it to the same account I use here. Then I can ditch the new email, not something I want to collect:cuss:

Got a thread posted and we will see what the folks have to say.

I plan on keeping this thread updated with their expertise.

Going to check them out this evening, thanks.
