I've had a heavy barreled .260 Remington built on a Remington 700 action by Defensive Edge for a few years. It had approximately 500 rounds on it when I bought it second hand and I've put twice that through it since. I took it to Tumbleweeds today to price out a rebarrel in .260 AI. After giving it a thorough examination, they told me the barrel looks good; they said just set it back and recut the chamber. Even with retiming the fluted barrel and muzzle brake, it's going to cost a fraction of what a new barrel and installation would run. With the holidays upon us it will be well into first quarter before I can pick it up, but something to look forward to! :)

That’s great I can’t wait to see it and hear about your load for it!

Mine really liked r17

of course I changed calibers before all the heavy 6.5 bullets. I’d love running the a tips in a 260ai

that said, I’d prefer small primer pockets and a longer neck and more room to seat the bullet out farther

I hear you. I thought of switching to a 6.5 Creedmoor but I have dies, lots of .260 and .260 AI brass (from a previous build) and a nice 700 Titanium hunting rig in .260 AI. I'll probably make the switch eventually ... but no rush.

when it is rechambered couldnt the chamber be throated for the longer bullets? gunsmiths asked what bullet I wanted to use so they could make room for it

Mag length is the constraint. If you’re single feeding sure
yes you are right but bullet could be seated a little deeper being with the high BC and a little less powder it will still have better range. any rifle I had redone I always used a long action
